Some Questions .......

Willee - Texas

Well-known member
Being a novice to the Deus detector I have red thru the User's manual and Andy's Handbook but still have a question or two.

1. is there a threshold tone or is the Deus a silent detector?

2. How do I turn down the headphone volume ... its to loud using a standard headset plugged into the controller.

Other than that I think I somewhat understand all the other controls.

The Deus is normally set up to be silent, but in the non motion audio discriminate settings on pg 53-54 of Andy's handbook step 3 covers the threshold sound u asked about. The headphone volume is covered also on pg165 of Andy's handbook and the control unit has no adjustment for earbuds etc. you need to get a set with an inline volume control.

It is a silent machine, however you can also.izt get a threshold by using full tone and 0 discrimination.
Non motion modes have a threshold, press the pin point button and you have 4 all metal programmes.
The headphones have a volume nut the RC does not, you will need headphones with a volume or but an inline volume control.

Thanks ... that explains it ... the remote control has no volume control but the WS4 will control the headphone volume.
Neither will control the volume of plug in type headphones.
I was wanting to use the WS4 mounted on the stem to see the VID numbers and plug my headphones into them.

Had the Deus out to the salt water beach today and hunted the dry sand and the damp (not wet) sand (dry beach program).
Very stable with hardly no false tones. (using default values of dry beach program)
I like the sounds and I could tell sharp narrow tones of small targets from the wider tones of larger targets.
Many hours needed but I can see that there is a lot of information available just listening to the tones.

Did hit some good sounding high tones that were just to deep to recover.
I suspect they were beer cans.
The Deus seems to have plenty of depth and sensitivity ... cant wait to read a bit more and get back out on the beach for some more ear training.

There is also a school yard nearby and I think this afternoon when it cools down I will set the Deus up for coins only and see what it finds.

Unless I'm missing something here,,,I got plugged some headphones into my remote,,,,using audio report setting,,,lower will lower volume-- it might help you some.

I had pretty good volume even with audio report at 0 setting--- 7 definitely louder.

Cheers.

Are you referring to Audio Response

Yep audio response.

I've reread the gent's post above,,,Hard for me to discern is he referring to headset module or actual remote.

In one place it looks like he is talking about the actual headphone module,,and later looks like he is talking about remote.

Anyway,,his post here,,,actually I plugged in to my remote for the very first time-- it works lol

Sorry about confusion ... The WS4 is the smaller round control module.
I was referring to plugging a set of ear buds or headphones into the larger remote unit... not the WS4 that requires an adapter to plug into.

The smaller round module (WS4) requires a clip on jack adapter for you to use headphones and it has a VOL choice on the menu.
Not having that clip on jack adapter I have not yet tried using the WS4 module with wired headphones.

Anyhow ... I have that all under control now thanks to the information posted in this thread.
Thanks to everyone that responded.

So far I do like my Deus and think it will be a keeper.
I just need to get out and practice what I have learned before I forget it.
