Some recent Explorer II finds...

Phil

New member
I hunted an old home site that was hunted by 3 others without a single coin being found. This was my first find 15 ft from the front steps.

Here are the other finds from the site

The dime unfortunately has no "D" and the coin at the bottom is an 1850 Bank of Upper Canada 1/2 penny token. Hard to believe it was within a few steps of the 2 cent piece. Not bunches of finds but I thought the Explorer did well where others had failed.

Nice finds!

That 2-center is a beauty!

Who cares about not finding a Hoard of Coins. Look at the goodies you did get. I would have been very happy if I would have found only that 2-Cent Piece. That Coin is in great shape. I would go back and Pattern the Yard, North and South and then South and North, just opposite of the direction you walked to see if you can't hit any other Coins that could have been next to Iron that the Coil didn't see the first time. Then I would go East to West or vise versa. Once again, Congrats on some Nice Finds Phil! Good Luck and HH.

I had big plans for this place with a weeks vacation coming up. This is a large 1850's brick home 1/4 mile off the road. The farmer that gave me permission to hunt the place has already come in and plowed the yard though. I had grid hunted 1/2 the front yard and even used my T2 to go back over the hunted areas. I've found that the T2's quick recovery time sometimes nets me a coin or button that the Explorer and I missed. I make it a point to hunt any productive site with more than one detector and it usually pays off. It looks like it will be fall before I can hunt most of the property now.

you will have a site that will keep giving up Goodies every time it is turned over. Too bad the yard had to be disturbed, at least until you pounded the heck out of the site, then it would have brung up other Goodies that were Deeper. Hope when you return that you find more Coins and some Nice Relics. Good Luck and HH.

I'm curious. What size coil did you use and deep were the targets? Also was there much trash? Those are awesome finds.

The ground had it's share of trash like most homes that age. Close to the house it sounded almost like one target but wasn't bad once I got 15ft away from the home. I used the 8in coil when I hunted close to the house. The 2 cent piece and the 1/2 penny token were almost the length of my digging trowel which has a 6in blade and 4in handle. The other coins were around 6in deep. I found a few wheaties close to the house but they weren't all that deep. There were also lantern parts, old spoons, buttons, misc metal and the obligatory couple of nails I dig at every site. You know, the bent ones that sound so much like a deep coin next to iron.
