Some recent finds...

Since I've been on vacation, I've been able to go to the beach to catch the low tides. Man, this is the life! I could handle it if I didn't have to work for a living

I hit a different place on Sunday morning at sunrise and worked the base of the low tide in a bay. Things looked really great when I hit a good target at the end of my first (LONG) pass. Only 1 scoop down I found my 3rd gold since last Thursday. Has some fake stones missing but it's fairly heavy and it's marked 14K. With a ton of beach still to cover and no holes in sight, I figured I was in for a multiple gold day :)

Unfortunately, that was not to be :( I should have taken pictures of how I gridded out the beach (dragging my scoop behind me). I covered every square inch of a large area and found nada; just a couple of clad and the ubiquitous pull tabs. Go figure :)

Yesterday, I was able to eek out two silvers earrings on the ocean side:

Oh... a while back I posted a pic of a small ring I found in the same area I was finding colonial stuff. I had a friend look at it and it did test 14K (there was no mark) and the stones are garnets. They figure it's from the 60's or the 70's so it's not that old...

This morning I got a watch that looks like it's been buried for a while (although it's still got the right time):
I also eyeballed a religious bracelet that's made of wood... interesting looking. Also got a junk earring and another religious pendant that might be silver (I have to clean it up):

When I dig dirt, I basically go over the same places (because they are so close to my house) looking for silver but finding mostly clad. Here's the clad from the last couple of weeks digging dirt and the beach. Not pictured is a '53 Washington and a '57 Rosie. I found the Rosie in with my clad (glad I checked)... it was pretty beat up. In with the pennies were 10 Wheaties; the oldest being a 1919.

That diamond ring I found? Turns out Vicky does not want to wear it... She feels bad for the person that lost it. I can understand how she feels. This was the first really good find for me and I'm sure someone was real upset... Eventually, I may try to sell it. For now it'll stay in my ring case.

congrats on finding them. I want to get out to do some detecting but right now its Lord's work time. Our church has leased a building for our new 'home'. Needs a lot of work before we hold our first meeting and also I took on the position of Administrative Team Leader. I tried to put it off and put it off but ya know it isn't right to fight against God and what He wants.

This coming Sunday we are holding a baptism service in one of the local rivers and a nice picnic afterwards. Will be a great day. The following Sunday we are hoping to hold our first service in the new 'home'.

Hey remember the Christian flag we had at one of the CMD forum hunts? It is now proudly flying from a pole at the new church building.

Again Joe, congrats on those finds. Were you using the Minelab on the beach? Using the Platypus coil? Just curious.

what's waiting for you in retirement :) Nice digs - too bad Vicky doesn't like the ring. Get out and get more now before work calls again, Steve in so az

Believe me, I know, the Lord's work comes first (and you'll find an everlasting treasure there )

I was using the ExpII and the X-12. Although the ExpII does not care for the wet sand / water, I've been able to come up with some settings that work. LOT'S of falsing but when a good target comes around, you can hear it. I like the X-12 because it's so big and I can cover more ground in less time. It's still sensitive to small targets. I can't tell you how many times I've had a blast of a signal that turned out to be an incredibly small piece of junk. I've had to whip out the X-1 just to find them :)

I think you will always be slim and in swinging shape. I have found that the majority of people I meet just continue what they are doing when they retire. Some contimue sitting on the couch with TV and some get out detecting :) 10 years will fly by, Steve in so az

Joe,

You mention a 1919 wheat. I'm not a big coin collector but I thought the 1919 wheat was rare. I'm guessing 1919D. Can some in the know respond?

Good Luck

don't have one of those in my arsenal of coils. Would be interested in the setting you use - though you're probably around salt water and sand. No salt water here - all freshwater (be fresher still if we had some rain).

I've been sticking pretty close to the Platypus mainly because of covering ground (biggest one I have) and the separation it has because of the DD construction and not too bad at pinpointing by just X'ing the spot. Just sold 2 of my detectors and the 'extra' money is going for the fire department response and the electrician's bill for the repairs. Doubt there will be an X-12 in the foreseeable future - but only God knows for sure.

Well have to mail out one of the detectors and have the van loaded with tools, ladder and other construction things so will be heading out shortly for the church after I get the package dropped off at UPS.

Have a great one Joe. God bless you and Vicky (and 'the band')

Man some awesome stuff! I love the garnet ring! Did ya get an approx value on the diamond ring?

In 1919, the Mint struck just as many, if not more, Wheat pennies, than were struck by all the mints from 1909 - 1918. 1919 Wheat's are a fairly common find for me, when I get into an area that produces early Wheat's.

a friend of mine works in a real nice jewelry store. She knows a lot about the stuff. I can get a verbal appraisal for free; a written one would cost $30 to $40. She said it would be easier to sell on Ebay if I had a written appraisal. Off the top of her head, she said it was worth at least $1,000. Some of the diamonds have inclusions. If the diamonds were all real good it would be worth a lot more. I'll hold on to it for now.
