Some SE hunting statistics

Well, looks like the season is drawing near a close here for me. I checked my log from last year, and Nov. 29th was the last day I made it out. Looks like it will be about that time again this year too, maybe a bit into Dec.

But while looking at my log, I was pretty pleased with the noticeable effect the SE has had for me. Here are some general results (without revealing too much about my own pitiful total quantities...). I've only had and used the SE since September.

By switching to the SE from my previous MXT, my overall 'keeper coins per hunt' increased a whopping 124%. (I define a 'keeper coin' as Wheats or older, silver, and pre-1950 nickels). Here it is graphically:

Now, the real kicker though is the boost the SE provided for finding silver . When just counting silver, I got a stunning 453% increase! :surprised: (Note, when you go from finding very little, to actually finding some on a fairly regular basis, that's what happens!). What is all the more amazing (to me, anyway), is this is still via hitting the same few hunting grounds. The only thing that really changed was the detector.

The only downside to using the SE so far is that I'm thoroughly spoiled by it... So much more to learn too!

Id say that pretty impressive since most of the time when you start using any new detector you have a drop in finds initially. I call that the discourage period where new detectors get sold too quickly. Looks like you caught on quickly, next year should be even better especially for those older silver pieces. Thanks for sharing.

My stats pretty much echoed yours when I switched over to a Minelab Explorer years ago. My 'significant coin' counts (excludes memorials, Jeffersons, clad) essentially doubled, and the average date of coins from the same locations dropped as well.

Hmm, I don't see an option to edit my posting, but I did notice a slight error in my chart. Just 'cause it bugs me, here's a corrected version. Not much difference though.

Interesting Dirtflipper,

I used to keep spreadsheets about everything I found, average dates and all that stuff. I kind of lost interest in that some years ago but not before I noticed similar results going from a CZ-6a to an Explorer XS. My wheat to silver ratio went from approx 8-9 to 1, to 4-5 to 1, depending on the year.

In the last few years, I have days that I find more silver dimes than wheats. Since I don't speadsheet this stuff anymore, I can't be scientific about it, but I can comfortably say that it is less than 4-5 to 1 now.
