I have detected for 36 years, and through all those years, regardless of machine, I have made what I think is a valid observation, that sounds so off the wall in one way, and yet makes some sort of sense in another. I am curious if this observation is one shared with other folks.
Here goes:
There are days of detecting, when I swear that my machine is "tuned in" to dimes, or pennies, or nickels, or silver, etc. more so than would seem probable.
My main hunting partner back home has heard me say this many times. We will go hunting, and I just seem to hit specific targets sometimes. I have found 5 SLQ's in the past year, which is just outrageous where we live. He and I hunt the same areas, and he has found 0 SLQ's. There are times when my machine just says "I think today, I am going to find silver dimes" or "IH's" or pennies.
Now, I know from experience, let's say with the explorer or trac, that if you noise cancel around iron, or other buried objects, it changes the way the machine responds overall. I always make sure that I NC in clear ground. Any piece of metal may affect the way the machine acts. Same for Electrical interference from wires, etc. The coil size also makes a difference in that I have to hunt for a clear space sometimes with my 12 X 15 SEF, and there have been sometimes I have air NC'd it.
I have had an experience along the Texas Border, where I am currently working, just the other day. I have been searching an old park that has produced 18 silvers for me so far, the oldest a 1916 merc. In one day, I found 3 IH's in the space of an hour, widely apart in the park. My settings were Screen basically wide open, 2 lines closed, except for nails in the lower right hand corner, multi-tone, manual sens about 27, conductive. Not one single silver though. I have come to expect silver from this park every time. All my silver has been deep here, 8 inches, and the IH's were in the same region.
Here's the thing, four hours earlier, before I took a lunch break, I was hammering deep nickels, found four of those, all buffaloes. Not much difference in temp, humidity, ground conditions, just different response from the machine I swear. I had identical settings, except for the NCing.
My reasoning suggests that given optimum conditions, where I Noise Cancel at, in terms of targets which disrupt that signal, outside electrical interference, humidity, ground mineralization, and setttings on the machine, I should consistently produce the same kind of results, but I have observed this "Phenomena" many times through the years, and it kinda flies in the face of what should occur.
The most likely candidate for the reason I am seeing this, or is it "thinking" I am seeing this, is because of some small variable of my tuning in my machine. I am just curious if any of you other folks see anything like what I am trying to describe here.
Sometimes she's hot for dimes, sometimes, for pennies, sometimes she's just not hot. They call this etrac a silver magnet, and i have to agree overall. I have about 80 concrete hours on her, and my silver count has trended upward from my explorer days, and I have used that machine since they came out.
Okay, there it is. Let's hear some opinions from you guys. If I am nuts, it is the other me who wrote this.......
