Speaking of pictures.......

You said that you are a retired high school teacher - what did you teach? What grades? Not sure if I look like a social studies/history teacher or not, but I think you look like a science teacher...

Tell Joan that my birthday is September 28th too! You said that you and Joan like going to auctions, yard sales, etc.- so do I! Going to auctions, yard sales, flea markets, trade days, and antique stores, are some of my favorite things to do. The Worlds Longest Yard Sale passes right through my area and I look forward to it every year. And you like history too! Sounds like we could all be good friends.

We are not that far apart! You will have to come up to the Forum hunt this year!

Who is the guy with all the hair in the bottom pic with that good looking gal?

Lisa---Quite a bit in common. We have thought about taking time to do some of the yard sale down, if I am correct, route 27. We have never done it so far. We are only about 50 miles from Cincinnati. I think the yard sale starts in Kentucky. They do one up here in Indiana on state route 40 or the old national road. Started locally a few years ago, but now runs from Maryland into Missouri and probably beyond. I do like history quite a bit. I am originally from Illinois, but have always became interested in the local history, no matter where I have lived. More into US history, but read up on World History too. Have numerous history books on different subjects. Thats what I like about detecting. Wondering how the item got there, who caused it to be there and so on. Used to be involved in living history reenactments at one time. My former father in law was involved in Rev. war reenactments and also Civil War for a time. Those weekends were like stepping back into time.

I am glad you did! It has been a great post with many replies! :)

Mike--Give me some info on the Forum hunt. If I can work it out in my schedule I would love to make the trip. When school is out for the summer, my hours change but I do have vacation time. As a newbie I would like to get with some experts to show me the ropes. I have yet to find a detecting club around here close. I know of a couple of people who detect, but they are hooked up with others. Don't want to take time to help a rookie, I think.
Just let me know. Where do you live in Michigan?

Yeah, US history is my favorite too. The topics I enjoy the most are the Civil War, the Great Depression, President F.D. Roosevelt, WWII, and the Civil Rights Movement. My favorite thing to teach on is the Holocaust (when we do the WWII section). I posted some pictures on the forum (quite a while back) of some concentration camp models some of my students did last year. I also thoroughly enjoy Alabama history! I do NOT like world history - AT ALL!!! I couldn't care less about all those empires, crusades, or ancient countries and their royalty. Like you, I like to apply history to my treasure finds! I also have tons of history books.
