Spectra V3 a glorified DFX?

No, not even close Ron.
 
Larry I see you post a lot is there any good reading material that may help me understand the V3 a lot better? I want to get the most out of the machine as possible. I've been reading the manual over and over and taking notes. I was hoping there is something out there that would explain more in depth on discrimination, filters, sensitivity and so on I want to get the best out of this machine as possible.

WHAT?...Just go out and USE it ! ! ! Have FUN--- You can't go wrong;-)

Do your research. Find the "OLD" spots. Well used spots. The V3 will keep up with what ever YOU want to do.

The only thing about the V3, that is like the DFX, is that it has many of the type of adjustments popularized with the XLT and DFX. After that...the general construction style only. Acts different, more sensitive, much easier to move around the HUGELY improved interface and on and on. Yup...it's somethin'. Developement of this one, is a major jump forward in the hobby.
 
Ron, as stated on another question of yours, the V3 is totally new and it takes a while to write a book and get it published.......be patient. You just found your first silver dime weeks ago and now you think you are ready to win the Daytona 500 with a new machine. It just don't work that way. Many of us have 20-30 years, or more, experience at hunting and we are learning the V3 right along with you. You have to learn the basics of metal detecting first and the machine you use is secondary. Use the preloaded programs first and make changes one at a time, learn what each change and feature does for you in your ground and hunting style. The V3 is a powerful detector right out of the box and don't be in such a big hurry to make changes that the rest of us are doing. Each user is tweaking the V3 for the best use for their hunting style, what they are hunting for and the ground they hunting in. Your finds will increase with knowledge and experience. The V3 is not a magic wand that you wave over the ground and finds suddenly appear.

I might add, Ron, that right now this forum of 35 pages, over 8,000 posts on 1000 Subjects is the best compilation of information of the V3 in the world until Jeff Foster gets his books into print which might be after the 1st of the year. ( I hope) You might want to go back and start reading from the beginning of the forum. All of the major adjustments you want more info on are all discussed in detail with a lot of help from the engineers from White's including Anne, AK_1234 who wrote a lot of the code for the V.
 
Have to concure with Larry too. Basic stuff first. All of us are still learning (so your in good company). I do have to say that, depending on your hunting conditions... a little understanding with just the basic sensitivities could be needed with the V3. Like Larry said, a new Jeff book will be out but until then, I have the DFX book and would be fine with lending it to you. Lots of stuff applies to the V and I'll work it over with a highlighter and margin notes.) Your in my neck of the woods aren't ya?
