Spring Club Hunt

What a great time we had and we are so glad so many members showed up especially on Saturday..... I think we had 17 or 19, something like that. And a big [size=x-large]WOW[/size] on the number of silvers and wheats that were found in what I call ideal ground conditions, can't wait to add up the numbers when everyone posts their finds. I bet is was close to 30 silvers including a walking half, a couple of quarters, one a standing Lib, a bunch of dimes and four or five silver rings. The deep wheats were just amazing, all along the hillside especially, most of them were from 7 to 10 inches deep and one reported 11 inch deep wheat. I did not hear any reports of gold being found this year, it kind of makes you wonder how many of those tab hits that were passed up were gold rings..... I bet every one of us passed over at least one.

A big thanks to Nancy for dealing with the city on the reservations in the campground and putting up with their nonsense and BS, at times talking with four different people, all with a different say in how things are done ........ but everything worked out OK, we had two RV's and three tenters roughing it.

Thanks go to Pam for chairing the event. Steve C and Pam kept us in stock of donuts, brats and hot dogs for breakfast and lunch, and some evening meals were donated by Nancy and McLucky as well......... AND a super breakfast cooked up by Chef McLucky, all done on a camp stove, scrambled eggs, bacon and hash browns...... yummy Rocky the raccoon thanks you as well for the leftovers.

Another thanks goes out to Pam and Steve, and Jeff for the hidden tokens and prizes on Saturday and Sunday both. Steve will have to check his minutes of the hunt and post the winners on those.

Nancy and I spent a couple of extra days there so we had a slight advantage, you would think, but really, I am happy with what I found. Just about all of the goodies came from the heavily hunted park(s) that we thought were all hunted out but what a difference a moist but not wet ground makes on depth.

Sunday afternoon I finally pulled out a Barber 1899-S from a neighboring town park that has been hit pretty hard but they missed the Barber, I think largely because the large iron Spike right above the dime was just an inch or two away from the dime in the ground as well as in the picture. That CTX 3030 is fantastic separating the iron from good targets. I ended up with 7 silvers including the baby ring with the CZ and 25 wheats as well as the usual finds.

Now the strange picture that doesn't seem to fit in with the club hunt....... We stayed an extra day, Monday, and just from driving around, we came across the Mayo General Hospital from the 1940's. After talking to several people, I got permission to hunt a part of it that has not been sold yet, unfortunately, I was not the first person to go that route and my guess is it has been hunted very hard over the years. After hunting all Monday afternoon there I only had found three wheats of the 25 total. I thought the 1942 water hydrant (or whatever it is) was a neat prop for my detector so I took advantage of the photo op. The building in the background is just one of 99 of them. way to go on all of the silvers Larry!! that eyeball thing is kinda creepy lol. I know dad and I had a blast. Glad we made it out (next year we are planning on staying overnight).
