Started out for one site and wound up at another

Got back to a corn field that I posted about some 2 or 3 years ago. The land owner posted all his land to everyone with no explanation. Of course it was his land so he can do as he sees fit.
Today I stopped by and asked one of the sons if his father was there. The boy who is about 30 told me that someone was steeling from them so they stopped everyone.
He finally told me to go and metal detect and if anyone asks tell them Charles said its OK.
So, with that out of the way, here's what I found today. The soil is turned every spring so the coins are not real bad. At least you can ID them.
1864 2 center and a 1798 Large.
Thanks for looking.

... how close to the where the house is / was do you detect? I have permission to hunt some field but have been hanging close to where the old foundations are. Am I missing something by not wandering in the wide open acreage?

Yes you are, most of what you'll find will be around the outskirts of the yard. Most yards to old houses where very small. Front yard back yard and live stock where within a handshake of the house. Alot of coins and buttons will be found between the house and the barn.
Basically hunt it all.

Wow! 1798! They look to be in great shape considering how old the Large Cent is and the 1864 2-Cent Piece. Nice Going! Hope you return and find more. Good Luck and HH.

Settings after the survey or use your old ones.I have learned that ones settings that worked for them may not work for you.I know that you know that. You have hunted to long.Good luck on your next hunt.

I turned deep off and everything else stayed the same. With only 2 coins and both of them in bad shape it was hard to tell if they IDed better or not. As for hearing the deep signal, switched back and forth with little difference. I guess it's too early to say for sure what if any change there is in running Deep on or off.

I always fall short. Maybe you and I should swap locations for a week or so. you could try for some silver...and I could try for some old copper:bouncy:

I had all my coils in the cap of my truck and brought just the Explorer thinking I was going to hut a cellar hole site.
Well it turned out I stopped at the corn field on the way. Not having my Shadow X5 to use in the field. I put the Slimline on so I could get the day in with out killing myself. So, to make a long story longer. I got by just great in the corn field with the stock coil. It only gave me trouble when I tried hunting some grassy areas.
