Still having trouble distinguishing on Deep targets

Hey everyone I'm new to the site and still kinda new to the E-trac (3 months). Im really feel I understand the e-trac really well when its 5 inches deep or less. Once I get targets that are deeper than that I know the numbers start to very and the sound is not quite as smooth. So the numbers seem to bounce more. And more often than not Ive dug huge 10inch deep holes and either its iron or I start getting iron numbers on the display so I quit digging. Ive tried using quick open mask when i get a bouncy signal and 99% of the time I get iron signals so I dont dig. How much am i missing or am I doing it correctly? How much does the signal really change once you get over 6 inches or so? Does it still have the same smooth coin signal that coins 4 inches has? Ive watched videos with people deep test gardens and think I have it down until I actually start looking.
Thanks for any help

Just read the Deep Whispers post and this seems to kind of fall in with the same I was asking. So I may have a better understanding now anyways.
Thanks

If the CO number is good (to me) and the FE number doesn't go too high.... I dig it. Even if it is only a one way hit (one direction out of four) if I get a consistant good CO number, I dig it am often plesantly surprised.
