Straight shaft for Dual Field ?

S.S.Tupperware

New member
I am thinking of making a straight shaft for my dual field. It is light and the S shaft is ok but I think a lil longer shaft would add 25 pct or more of ground covered per swing... since I have a friend who works at an architectural aluminum shop, I can get it tig welded and then powder coated in whatever color I want. The question is what are the dimentions of yours? Is the box mounted still under your forearm? I will weld on the arm cuff also out of 4" alum, and get a new lower shaft since I don't wanna mess up the original since I might need it if I decide to do any traveling since it would break down smaller. If you can think of anything else... I'm all ears. Thanks

Not the Df but a travel shaft for the excal. Like it because it breaks down small and fits in a backpack for travel. Quick Assembly .......Made from 2 canes, 10 dollars for both at the Goodwill store. Maybe a Idea for you. The Pod is reversed because it is easier to hunt AM with, just let go of the handle reach over a few inch's to switch to Discriminate, to check then back to AM....Good Luck....Joe

I think (and this is just my humble opinion) that I would hip mount or chest mount that box. I hip mounted my excal and have never looked back. I did it myself with a piece of pvc, some nylon bolts, and a couple of zip ties. Cost me less than $10.00 and allows me to hunt for a couple of extra hours.

I have hip mounted all my water detectors and even some of my land detector that weren't specially made to do that. I modified the stock mount for the dual field and posted a picture of it here a few months ago. I have the Tiger Shark in a surplus military canteen holder with a belt to go around my waist. My Garrett Sea Hunter had a harness I made that had it hang in front of me about chest high so I could see all the controls. I use my Fisher 1280-X on the same belt I use for the Tiger Shark. Even made a chest mount for the land CZ7-A-Pro. I just figure I don't want to swing anymore weight than I have to. If I could chest mount the E-Trac, I'd do it. Jim

The DF is light so I doubt I will take it off the shaft, I was just wondering what the length of ya'lls. I guess I'll have it welded and slowly cut if down til it works...

The coil wires on pi machines are also more fragile than other machines, hipmounting could cause excess strain and cause failure, its so light i can't see the point either
