stuck my fisher sunray probe on etrac

Hello Q, It's always a good feeling to share with others and see the work of others. I haven't been watching the forum so much lately so I'm not familiar what the problem of the lock tab wobble is, but if you are meaning lower shaft wobble, I been using electrical tape on the squared end of the lower shaft to tighten up the fit inside the shaft. HH EddieB

Hi EddieB,

The lower shaft does not give me much problem, it's the upper shaft where it goes into the control housing. It appears to wobble or twist inside the control housing mount and handle during my sweep. Not to mention the annoying creaking sound it makes especially with a larger coil. I have made sure to fully seat the shaft and checked the screws, slowing down my swing speed is no help. Holding the handle real tight in my hand it seems to help, but it is not practical to hunt like that for long periods of time. The Safari I have owned for two years does not seem to have this problem.

Maybe I will have to take the handle and control housing apart to figure out a fix.

Thanks,
HH

the probe comes with 2 half circle grips which snap onto the stem same with the box.

Yes ... on most detectors the switch box is mounted to the shaft using snap on devices and velcro strips.
But on the Explorer/E-trac detecors the coil connector is inside the upper shaft.
The switch box is held to the upper shaft with rivets or screws and the cable runs inside the rod to the detector control box.
Most people just buy the upper shaft and switch box assembly from SunRay but if you are handy you could do it yourself.

Personalty, I like the Garrett pin-pointer probe as I can use it with any detector and it adds no weight to my already heavy Explorer II.

Hey Q, I have owned the SE, and still have my EX2 and the Etrac and none of them has given me that problem. My Etrac is of the early production, just wonder if the problem could be with the more recent production? EddieB
