Hello all,
First let me tell you a bit about my experiences with metal detecting. A few years back I bought a Garrett GTI2500 and after about a year of detecting I found one 182? large cent, 100 or so wheaties, 5 buff nickels, 5 1932-46 silver quarters, an assortment of relics and about 5 buttons.
I ended up selling my 2500 for financial reasons... then after a few months I started missing the hobby so I got an affordable ACE250. I detected with that for a few months, found one button and more wheaties... but all the while I was coveting an E-Trac. I knew I was missing the deepies and it was driving me crazy.
So just last week I finally bought an E-Trac! I spent a day or so browsing Andy's book and the manual... messed with some settings and out I went. I spent about 3 hours in the woods and found some foil and pull caps, shotgun shells and random iron slabs. Now keep in mind I had no pinpointer... so it was really a chore to find what I was after. I was impressed from the first dig, cause that little piece of foil was a good 10" down. I knew right then I was going to love this machine.
I wrapped up the hunt by finding an 1831 William IV Coronation Medal (token) about 9" down. I still haven't cleaned it fully, but from looking at the patina and the way the dirt has molded itself to it, I suspect it's not modern and it's been in the earth for a long time. Bust of King is facing right and reads "William IV Crowned Sep 8, 1831." Reverse has a horse mounted soldier fighting 2 lions and reads "By trampling on Liberty I lost the reigns." I have found many tokens over the years, but never one this old.
Yesterday I got out for a few hours and found 2 buttons in the same area. I know if I keep it up I will find more deep goodies! I cannot wait to go out again, and this next time I will have a Garrett Propointer to accompany my hunt.
