SUNDAY BEAN FIELD HUNT

I took my Vaquero out to where an old home site was located in a bean field today.
Dug lots of junk targets but got a few keepers. The barber dime was the first silver off this site so far.
Anyways, my finds for the day was....left to right....1905 indian head penny, 1873 Chicago Exposition token, 1897 ? indian head penny,
and bottom, 1898 barber dime. Sorry the picture quality sucks..........HH

thats amazing , you have a very good spot thear , keep in mind i have searched for 6 years in all kinds of places with all kinds of detectors, and have only found 5 silver coins and one gold ring , so I would say keep at it you have a nice spot thear , I think i have the poorest farmers in the world hear .

Wow! Any one of those finds would make a great day for someone. You got four great days rolled into one day.

Roger,

...You got a nice old site, the coins are all great keepers, but the token would have me stoked the most.

I'd bet there is more kool stuff waiting for you and the Vaquero:clapping:

Great finds Roger, thanks for the pictures.

This home site is on the 1872 atlas maps of the county, so I know it goes back at least to 1872, possibly back to the 1830's.
So far the site has gave up a large cent, 2 cent piece, 3 shield nickels, a V nickel, several indian head pennies, one early wheat cent,
a confederate spur, a couple crotal bells, an arrowhead, and the coins and token above. There is also broken glass from antique bottles
mixed in with all the various little tidbits from the home site. The old maps also shows what I believe to be 2 other home sites in the same field.
Also along the edge of the field is a ravine that has an old concrete structure that was once a grist mill for grinding grain. The atlas told of people
coming from miles away with their grain and having to camp near the mill to wait their turn at the mill. My buddy and I have researched this area
and actually the site we want to hunt is still grown up with weeds and tall grass. It was a grove where old settlers reunions were held from 1870 to 1877.
From my research on the area, there was approximately 4500 people at these celebrations in the seven years they were held in the grove. With that many
people in a relatively small area there has to be some nice old coins and artifacts just waiting for us to uncover them. We are fortunate to have this site to hunt
with a super nice landowner that gave us free run of 600 acres to hunt. It is gonna be interesting to see what comes from this location in future hunts.......HH

If possible take a weed eater with you and chop thru the tall stuff and get to where you can throw a coil over the dirt. Take your friend
and spend a day cleaning out a place to hunt. Then go back and hit it hard.

Nice finds btw

Gary

Gary, we tried to mash the weeds and grass down with a board and rope like they use in making crop circles but it didn't work too well.
I'm hoping it gets cut this year by the land owner.

Roger

Well ya know as long as the board didn't have to many nails in it you could have just stood on it and detected thru it while standing there...lol

But man if you know you have a great place to hunt and a cool landowner. Offer your services on helping to clear it. Doing so may just be the thing
he has been needing to actually do it. Someone's help.
