Sunday hunt

Got out to the center of town for a couple of hours where i have been hunting here in Avon Park, Fl. Ive tried a lot of different ways to hunt it just because it has years of trash, metal lines and electrical line, EMI and who knows what elce. Its a tuff hunt so i went back to basics... i mean restarted in factory opened up the IM, left fast and deep off per Bryce's recommendation... which did make the tones longer. I did manage to get a few deeper coins to include to silver merc's the oldest 1917 and one 1898 IH. That not bad since there has been at least 5 hunters going thru the area every sunday for the past 4 weeks or so. There were two there when i started swinging. Its always nice to pull good coins out that others have missed... to include me. 3" is still about as deep as i seem to be able to get. Anyone have any ideas for more depth let me know. Dont say small coil... lol, i dont have one here. Im useing the SEF and its does seem to really seperate very well.

Dew,, i dont know what to tell you .hopefully .Bryce ,,,,justdigit (Jack)..or derrell will see your post they continue to pull deep coins......they may be able to help you

In one of my spots like that I keep going back (optimistic die hard) and keep trying different settings. Sometimes I get skunked but every once in a while I get surprise. I still have not given up. Id try working with fast on but get a really stable threshold if possible maybe even lower the sens below what you might think. I have mineralized soil to deal with. if no results in an hour I try something else.

David... this is the only place ive found to be a challenge. Ive hunted the inland peer here in Seabring and was pulling wheats at 15" in the wet and mucky sand. Ive hit a park in Ind. that has unground lines .... it just takes patience and a lot of adjusting. I have noticed on thing different that ive never noticed before. Seems like EMI, but the detector get noisy and you cant settle it down not even with noise cancel. The only way ive found is turn it off and back on. That seems to settle it down for 20 min or so. Batteries are fresh ... it has to be these underground power lines.

Anything is possible Dew, maybe changing a few settings ,,,like Utal said ,,,,,,,,i think i would try lowering the sensitivity first then see how that works,,, I myself have ran into areas that i couldnt hunt so i lowerd the sens. and that helped......at least i was able to hear pulltabs.LOL....good luck

I have a park in Ohio that will drive you crazy because of the power lines!! The only way i can use my sef is to drop the sensitivity way back... Im sure you tried that already... My 8 inch doesn't have a problem there... to bad you didn't take your smaller coil there ,, Anyway,,. Good job on the finds from the pounded park!! you said that the deepest there is 3 inches... It might be one of those parks that there is not any 8 9 or 10 inch coins... Hew knows... But good luck Dew,, Cant wait till you get back to Indiana so i can see some pics!!!!

Yep tried reducing sensitivity to 10 manually and 17 auto and reduced gain to 5 once. Darrell its not a park its a series of down town ilands right in the middle of town with lots of traffic on both sides, except on sundays its not so bad. Utah... i always find somthing even if its a handfull of change. This place has tons of pennies, i used the X1 to pick up a bag full just to get them out of the way. Darrell, i beleave there is some deep silver in two of the islands. There are about 7, but i hit a few others and i could tell it was clean soil and i was getting deep memorial there so id say they had new soil there. But two of them the city has been scrapping and working on, those are the ones im hitting. Ive found enought there to beleave there is still a lot of deep silver there. The deepest so far has been that SLQ that was in superior condition at 6" or so. Ive hunted about 8 hunts so far and should have some stuff to post if i can figure out how to do it. Thanks for everyones imput. Im ready to get home and try this coil out in some of the parks i was hunting.

i can live without it until summer at least. let me know.

Congrats on the finds Dew..nothing like finding coins over the same ground others have treked over!!..As far as getting deeper, with that SEF, I dont think it matters how you set up deep on or off..you will get DEEP!!..Maybe all the surface trash is keeping you from hearing the deep stuff? I think Bryce likes his gain high, so I think that makes everything kind of sound at the same depth. So using that setting , u probably have to keep checking visually as far as how deep u are , and that surface trash may get a little tough too. I never tried his settings yet so I dont know for sure. Again he has been using those settings for a while, so experience counts for alot! Now if you didnt change the gain to max( I like 5, easy for me to hear deep from shallow) and you still switched off fast and deep, I guess you may miss hearing some deep stuff..But with that SEF, I would think u still would get down pretty deep. Remember, fast and deep are off, but he increases his gain and that makes up for it as far as hearing the deeps. Pick his brain, hes more than helpful in answering questions. For me right now, I like ferrous, deep on, gain 5. there is alot of iron in the parks I hunt, and trash. gets me down nice and deep too. and there are so many targets, it would take me all day of looking back and forth to get 50 feet!! I actually tried upping my gain to 6 the other day, and it screwed me up!!..lol..my wife says Im too thick headed and that proves it. Hope my reply has been helpful.Good luck:usaflag:

The best way to find out what will work is find a target, you think is a coin that sounds iffy deep, and then go thru your settings and see what makes it sound better.....Deep off, lower sens, lower gain, or a combo, lower sens but keep gain higher, or the opposite, find a good target and figure it out...it works for me....you can go into menu and change anything and reswing as you go....

Frase me and Bryce have talked and thats why i turned off Fast in the area. It helped make the tones less broken. We hunt very simular, but then we are both from the say neck of the woods and possibly the same type soil. As far as "you will get deep" ... not so far in this situation. Mattockman... you may have the answer it wouldnt necessarly need to be a coin about any DEEP target may serve. Ill deffently try that. There is no substitute for a test garden... and when you dont have one, a good deep target works great. Ive tried adjusting the Gain, but im partial to HIGH Gain. Ive switched back and forth from cond to ferr, cond seems better for the older coins. Sangamon I appreciate your offer im only here in the area for a couple more weeks if that. Im hard headed too, i just like the challenge of this bigger coil. Dont get me wrong guys, im not frustrated in the least. I like these type locations because the chances of finding those good coins improves in area others cant hunt. Plus it make you a better hunter. There is a possibility that they have filled the area over the years and the coins have sunk too deep. Ive still got a couple more hunts. HH ALL.
