Sunday's short hunt.

James N.D.

Well, most of the Snow had melted so Dale and I decided to go and try finding some goodies. We heard about a Lake that had been drained 6' which had a Beach. So we headed out to it. We got there and started detecting, digging everything. Dale kept asking me what to dig, and I told him if he wanted to find Gold, he has to dig every Target on the Beach that sounds good. I finally found a .925 piece of Jewelery and asked Dale if he had found anything yet. He told me that he found only a Junk Ring and a bunch of Coins. So we continued digging endless Pull Tabs. About 15 Minutes later, I see Dale digging and then holding something, looking at it. I pulled off my Headphones and asked what he found. He starts looking at me and then starts grinning saying "I got one, I got one, and it's even got Diamonds"! I told him Bull#@%$! Then he slips it on his finger and then I had to go over to see if he was actually telling me the truth. I looked and couldn't believe it. It was a Double Banded Wedding Ring with 2 Diamonds in it. I then pursued in telling him that he was a Lucky you know what and then he starts telling me it read an 8 and that he tried scratching the Sand with his Shoe and was going to pass it up but decided to dig it. I looked to see what Karat it was and it said 18K on it. I then give it back and we started hunting again. We hunted and hunted but no other Gold or Silver was found. So we headed back and decided to stop at an Old Park next to a River that I had found lots of Silver at a few years ago. I told him that it was going to be tough since most of the Coins I dug from here were only 1-way Signals, and most of the time you could have sworn that it was going to be a Rusty Nail type of Signals. We arrived and started Detecting. We only had about 1 Hour of Daylight left (We didn't even get started Detecting until after 3:00pm) so we better make the best of it. I soon found a Wheatie, which kinda shocked me since this area has been pounded to death. Then a couple other Wheats showed up and then I got a Good Signal and dug down and got a Null off of a Nail. When I removed some dirt though, something Square and Green was in the hole. I picked it up and it was a Plastic Television with some Character on it. Cool I thought. Then I started Detecting again and I finally got a good 28 Reading and dug down and a Merc surfaced. Alright I said! I walked only a few feet and got a 25 Reading, which I thought was going to be an Indian Head. Dug it and another Merc pops out. I checked the hole and nothing and then checked the dirt, still nothing. Only thing that I can figure is that it had to be on edge. It was almost dark and Dale was already in the Van. I got a good 28 and started digging. I get down about 8" and a Silver Roosevelt Dime pops out of the dirt. I then turned the Detector Off and covered the hole and walked to Dale's Van after I went over the hole again, thinking there's still stuff here and maybe Rick(ND) can come over to the Park and try his luck since the ground was fairly damp which has to be the reason for the Deeper Coins to start showing up again. Most of the Coins were in around the 10" mark. I also found a bunch of Clad Coins from the Beach. We stopped by Rick(ND) Bar and Dale showed him his finds. He saved the Gold Ring for last. Rick thought it was Plated until further inspection. Dale got some good comments from a lady at the Bar, telling Dale it was a very Beautiful Ring. We then put it on a Scale and it come out 4.1 Grams. Dale estimated 4 Grams before we even put it on the Scale so he was right on the money with it. Congrats Dale on that great find. I will try and get a Pic of it on Friday or Saturday for you all to see. So Sunday wasn't a bust since I found some Silver. Dale never got any Silver from the Park, only a few Wheats. I guess I hogged it all!:biggrin:So here's the totals. I found 3 Silver being 2 Merc's dated 1942,1943-s, and 1 Silver Roosevelt Dime dated 1954-d. I found 5 Wheat Pennies, which 4 are very pitted and they are dated 1926-d,1934-d,1935-d,1941-s, and 1944-d. For Misc., I found the Plastic Green Television with some Character either on a Surf Board or Hover Board, looks like an Elf with Pointed Ears, a .925 Piece of Jewelery, a Junk Toe Ring, a Sea Shell, and a Junk Forever Ring. Hope next weekend doesn't have Snow or Rain in the Forecast. I'm having Silver withdrawals! Good Luck and HH and thanks for looking.[attachment 88945 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 88963 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 88946 DirtyWheats.jpg][attachment 88968 CleanedWheats.jpg][attachment 88941 DirtyMisc..jpg][attachment 88966 CleanedMisc..jpg]

Im trying to learn how to find more silver next to rusty nails and starting to get the hang of it but need a lot of time to learn it !!!!I only dug 50 rusty nails over the weekend and deep holes, but at least I can sleep knowing that I didnt dig and left silver in the hole HA HA Have a good one and Good luck on your next hunt.:detecting:

Nice work James. :clapping: Any silver is good silver in my book. Glad you ended up be able to get out for a bit, as it didn't sound to promising late last week. Rain mixed with snow for us here in IL right now, but at least it doesn't seem to be accumulating. :surprised:

HH,

Jeff

Remember to save all them Nails. Clean them up and haul them in for Scrap Iron! Seriously though, it does take time to learn the difference between a Nail and a Deep Coin next to a Nail. Heck! I still dig Nails that sound like possible Coins, so your not alone on digging them things. Hope your next hunt has less Iron and More Silver. Thanks again and Good Luck and HH. :yo:

that if it does accumilate, the Snow that is, it won't take long for it to melt. I heard that Wahpeton, ND got a Whopping 18" of Snow on Friday. That's about 80 or so Miles South of me. We only got a little Snow, just enough to make it miserable and not be able to detect until it melted. Hope both our Upcoming Weekends are more to our liking. Good Luck and HH when you get out Jeff.

Nice finds James!

I always enjoy your posts- never ceases to amze me what you find, even in hunted out spots. I'd invite you to my Seated park here in Mass., but I'm afraid you'd embarrass me!

Keep up the great work.

Jeff in Mass

Great job James!! Man, silver is sure hard to come by here, but I still love to look for it!! Thanks for sharing!

Chasing one way hits is about the only way to go at a pounded site. Nice high hits didappeared with the 99 cent gallon of gas:rofl:

Even though i know better I had been digging those iffy signal and getting nails. Well after about 50 of them I get a signal that was iffy and used my Sun Ray probe and got close to the target and it just nulled, so I put the dirt back and walked away. Well Mr. Lucky himself, James walk over it and also get a iffy signal so he digs it again only to take out the nail, plus the nice barber quarter that was under it. I guess I know better so it was my fault James added another barber quarter to his collection.
Maybe James I will have something to post on Tuesday as my plans are hitting that 8 lots in the old town i told you about. My SE has been wanting to go out and sniff some silver before you get it all in a 100 mile radius of me.

Being it is 18K and looks old I hope he gets it to a jewler to have the diamond check out as the main one is big and wonder if it a 1 Karrett or bigger as it could be worth some buck, Maybe give him a new SE for it as it is nice.

Rick

That was Dale's 1st Diamond Ring. His wife has always told him to go to the Beach, so he's glad he listened for once. Good Luck and HH.

So I will let you know when he does, the value of the Ring, and what he plans on doing with the Ring. Good Luck and HH.

Good Repeatable Coin Targets at pounded sites are getting to be a thing of the past. Just like the Gas Problem, you will never see $1.29 again. Unless of course you were to go out and Seed Coins in your favorite Park. Only thing good about the Pounded Parks is that if you do get something Deep and Iffy, it's going to be Old. Good Luck and HH.

Boulevards or get permission for Vacant Lots. These are 2 hidden spots that will yeild what you seek. Good Luck and HH.

Not Embarrassing you but doing some Side by Side Comparisons. Only thing is Mass. is so far away and the price of Gas is getting outrageous. Keep working that Park if you know that there is Seated still there. You never know when you'll get lucky and start popping out Coins left and right. Wishing you the best of Luck. Good Luck and HH.

I hope you get out Rick and find some great finds when you do. Hope to see a Seated Quarter in your post, your about due. Good Luck and HH.
