Surf PI Pro threshold question

I can't get anywhere near the gain preset mark and still
maintain a steady threshold. Should the gain be
adjusted just far enough to hold a barely audible
steady threshold without wavering ? Tried adjusting
the gain different ways trying to see what works
best. Most of the time the gain is up around 1/3
to maintain a nice steady threshold. That seems to
be the most logical way to run it but I may be wrong.
Maybe a wavering threshold is normal but it seems
like you may miss the smaller signals without a
steady threshold to compare them with.
Even tried running with the tuning just barely in
the silent range with the gain all the way up.
Would like to know from those of you
that use the PI Pro as I really like it and want to get the
best possible depth no matter what the target. Thanks in
advance for any help you can send my way.

Hi Glen,
A wavering threshold is how the PI Pro runs. If it set too high or too low you will miss targets. What you need to do is grab a hand full of nickels and plant some at the beach.
Put one at 6 inches deep and one @8

Thanks Terry. I really appreciate the information.
Hopefully, if the weather holds out I will be able
to hit the water this weekend.
Good hunting to you....Gene

Hello,
my PI PRO doesn't "wave". I can run it at higher settings than the "preset" ones. I think that it can be also a matter of where you use it.
Anyway it works really well also on the heavily mineralized black sands of Rome beach (Italy).
If you carry a cellular phone while searching, try to turn it off.
There can be "waving" if you search on the shoreline but I don't see it as a problem.
One very useful thing I noticed is that the PI PRO has two different audio tones for the most conductive metals (fast , high pitch) and for the lower conductive (slow, low pitch) in addiction to the usual broken sound for the rusted, iron objects.
Make tests and get used to it..
It is a nice detector in my opinion.
