T2 sniffs out a "V" Nickel.... :)

I decided to hunt in 1+ tone this evening GC was 63, sens 85,disc level 30. I had found the old spoon handle (Mid-late 1800's) this morning, so I decided to try the disc setting at 30 and dig everything with a good repeatable signal. The T2 got a solid lock on nickel and didn't bounce like the pull tabs do so I dug it ...the ground was so hard I scratched the Nickel clearing the hole with my digger, but it was clearly on it's side in the hole @ 6" depth. Besides the dang scratch she's in pretty good shape otherwise. I hate it when that happens!! But it does sometimes.....
Hope all had the chance to get out and dig today.... :)

Nice one. V's don't come along that often. I have the same digging problem here in W Tn. No rain in the area all month and digging is tough, tough. I nicked a 45 Merc. a couple days ago using the Omega. Good find! HH jim tn

Nice find Jay..and the first of many many more..

I'm just curious about the 'ferrous' readings as I haven't hunted any of that Texas soil since about '89. We didn't have the sophisticated detectors we get to use today to provide that info so I am just curious if it is a consistently low read-out or nothing at all? As I recall most of the ground I hunted when I traveled through the state seemed rather mellow compared to soils I usually hunt in Oregon, Nevada and Utah.

If you got a solid 'lock' on a 6" deep 5

Monte,
The bar on the Ferrous meter bounces from 0 - .1 when I'm hunting, GC varies from low to mid 60's and go as high as 79 in some places, & yes the TID readout was strong on the nickel with both chevrons locked on it (no bounce). The site I'm hunting in now FGC around 62- 68. Every once in a while I'll dig a small ferrous rock about the size of pea gravel, maybe once in every other trip with the T2 so far that is. Which is much more so than with the beep & dig detectors I have been using. I hope you're right about the Silver, I'm seriously considering the Omega now.... when my funds allow it. I know it will be the best companion to the T2.
It's getting light out now...... Time to dig!

She's a beauty... that scratch might come out in a vibrating tumbler with some walnut shell chips or one of those fancy magnetic tumblers that use those little bitty pins for matrix... they wont harm it either. It don't look like a bad scratch. That is why I like the Pocket Uni-probe it has incredible depth and will let you know where a target is. Actually, (and I don't mean to offend) if you are careful with the pinpointing on the T2 you will usually know exactly where the target is unless some iron pulls it aside on a deep target... but if you pinpoint then turn 90 degrees, then turn back and back again until you have a solid mental image of where the points intersect, you can (if you don't take your eyes off the spot as you kneel) put your finger right on the target. That is what I do.. I always pinpoint and again at 90 degrees, eyeball the exact spot, kneel without taking my eye off the spot, put my finger on it, and either rub the ground or in some other way mark the spot before I remove my finger... it works well for me... Eye, finger, mark, dig. Can't hurt...

why did you decide to dig everything above 30. most of the places i hunt have so much foil that digging everything that repeats above 30 the places would look like mine fields and i would be worn out with nothing to show for it. with the t-2 i have to pick what i dig by either tone or meter reading.

I had dug some older relics, coins & gold jewelry in the area in the past, and I wanted to up my odds of having better finds by clearing out more of the trash as well. I wasn't worn out and I did find the nickel. This morning I was a little more selective in my targets because I was digging in a Soccer Field. but I did have some deep finds & found the silver ring. I'm experimenting more than anything at this point since the T2 is relatively new to me right now.

After pulling out 3 war nickels on Friday with my O8K(at an old schoolhouse) I will say something about First Texas, their machines sure do love the nickels!
