I am looking at T2 or T2 SP Can someone with expierience on this units give me some advice I am located in Regina SK Canada what is the diference betwin them and which one would be beter on the fresh water beach (I can get info on the net but you can't beat expierience) and about the depth is it truth that this detectors are very deep on coin size objects ?. Thank you .

i have had my t2se for 4 months i must say its a good all around detector i can hit a quarter @ 12 inches in dry sand now on land depth all depends on soil conditions here on the west coast i get about 7 to 8 inches on coins max, the soil here is very minerilized, if your mainly hunting for coins the omega might be a little better from what ive been reading if hunt for relics and coins the t2 is a awsome machine im sure others will jump in here to give you some solid advise good luck

The T2 SE with the boost mode...will make the 5" DD accessory coil really pop for depth. If you are a small coil user. Also if I remember correctly, the SE tracks the ground like the Omega which will allow for running the sensitivity higher. You may want to verify that it continuously tracks the ground by calling the manufacturer.....1-800-413-4131....ask for a T2 tech to answer the question.

No FTP-Fisher products use continuous ground phase tracking. The T2 and the Omega provide pushbutton ground balance setting and also manual ground balance capability.

"The Omega has a tracking system which continuously analyzes the phase of the
ground you are searching. It then compares this ground phase value with the detector

Good catch, TerraDigger. The manual is correct. Actual ground balancing is not continuous, it happens either when you do "ground grab" or you do manual ground balancing.

No present FTP-Fisher product does continuous ground phase balancing, that aspect of machine operation is under user control.

I wrote the code that runs what are almost indisuputably the best "ground tracking" systems in the business, for previous employers Tesoro and White's. Very different code but resulting in rather similar behaviors. We never went that route here in El Paso because I am very aware of the deficiencies in such systems. Our decision to not go that route has been thoroughly vindicated. This whole issue is discussed in detail in the book "Gold Prospecting with a VLF Metal Detector", available online on both the Teknetics and Fisher websites.

Maybe someday we'll have a fully automated ground balancing system, but it probably won't happen until we've got something that fixes the problems of the stuff I did a decade ago which in its time was pretty darn good.

Thanks Monte. I'll be getting my M6 shortly and your "So, when in the 'Locked' toggle setting, they are reading and analyzing the ground phase. When you stop and move the toggle from 'Lock' to Ground and back to 'Lock' you have updated the Ground Balance and then locked that new setting" is good information to have.
