Tesoro Sand Shark (pi) vs Minelab Excalibur

Hi all just wondering if anybody has directly compared the two, side by side, in salt water wet sand ?

interested to hear any comments if one is better in the depth department on gold rings
in wet sand beach conditions,
thanks

I keep mixing up the Tesoro water machine names but I owned the one that wasn't a PI unit. Very well built and best water enclosure I've seen on a detector. The depth was good but not nearly as good as a Sovereign or Excal. Biggest problem was no tones, since I used it on land too. That meant turning up the discrimination to avoid trash and the depth suffered. I'd opt for an At Pro over it. Those machines are so light and with the display and tones also make great land units. Since I already have a GT, I'd buy one over an Excal to go along with my GT. The price is fantastic. Some guys are pulling coins out of iron that they missed with an Etrac thanks to the fast recovery speed, but you won't get as deep as a Minelab in some soils and sands.

under mineralized beach conditions the sand shark should go deeper because it's a (PI unit) with no Discrimination.

but if your beach is trashy (lot's of beach's are) then a PI will send you packing for home real fast.

pay a visit to The beach's that your going to hunt and see what the other hunters are using

Good luck HH

I suspect that the Sand Shark is as deep or deeper than the Excal / Sov. PI units are typically known for their depth. I own and Excal and am in the process of buying a Sand Shark. I like the idea of having both a discriminating machine (Excal) and PI unit (Sand Shark). Note that that compared to the Excal the Sand Shark is lighter, less expensive, and comes with a lifetime warranty giving is a pretty compelling value proposition. However if I could only have one machine I would still go with an Excal as it can be used anywhere and it does have discrimination. I suppose technically the Sand Shark can be used about anywhere, but on land in trashy areas it might get pretty rough.

A stock Excalibur is close (shy a few inchs) in the PP mode but not as deep I would say, (but you have discrimination) and a few modes to the excal and you can hit as deep if not deeper.....Wot, doc's amp, sens 10, vol almost full

24 inchs on a ring, well almost a ring, sorry cannot show video

All the questions on these online forums are great and serve all with great answers. But the real answer to these types of question about depth and one machine vs. another come down to one answer. YOU! That's it plain and simply you. While the same machine in one person hands may do 24 inches it might do 8 inches in yours. This is true of anything. Its up to you to learn what ever machine you chose to use buy. You can buy the best deepest machine you thinks out there and go out a be a Skimmer and complain that its not that great of machine.

You- in the post doesn't this poster, it means all.
Skimmer- 1) those that turn on and run the beach trying to cover every inch at mach 1
2) those that come out after a storm to take top finds (skimmer) leaving the goods for true hunters.
3) those with coils raised 8 inches at 30 degree angle
