I have been hitting some my older spots all week long looking to unearth my 100th silver coin recovery for 2010....all to no avail. In fact, this mornings 3 1/2 hour outing netted 6 coins, 2 wheats and 4 early Memorial cents. I thought," well, maybe Sat, if the rain holds off," but the prospects for that happening don't look good. And, Sun and Mon. temps. are going down into the teens at night and 30 for highs. The outlook for getting the 100th silver coin over the next few days was looking bleak. After I got home from my morning hunt I decided to make a pot of bean soup. Went to the store and got all the stuff I put in it and began soaking the navy beans. Rather then glare at the computer for a couple of hours while the beans were soaking to soften them up some, I told my wife I was going to do some clad hunting at a park that has an adjacent middle school and a soccer field. It is usually good for some clad and the occasional silver jewelry piece. My first target was a state quarter and the second was a Sacagawea dollar. Then I got a solid 84 reading on the Omega and much to my surprise a 1950 wheat cent turned up. I had never found an older coin on the site and was under the impression that the school and park dated to the mid 80's. A few feet further along I dug a toasted buffalo nickel and that coin really did get my attention. I slowed way down. About ten minutes and a few quarters and dimes later, I got a 84-86 reading with depth showing 5." I thought, "no way, maybe a silver ring," which would have been o.k. Much to my surprise, I retrieved my 100th silver coin for the year...a 56d Rosie. I don't really set annual goals, but have been fortunate enough to dig over 100 silver coins each year since I retired in early 06. Now, I have got to try and learn a little about this particular site. It is large enough to keep me busy for a good while and it is not all that trashy. Thanks for reading. HH jim tn
