That certainly was a surprise.

I have been hitting some my older spots all week long looking to unearth my 100th silver coin recovery for 2010....all to no avail. In fact, this mornings 3 1/2 hour outing netted 6 coins, 2 wheats and 4 early Memorial cents. I thought," well, maybe Sat, if the rain holds off," but the prospects for that happening don't look good. And, Sun and Mon. temps. are going down into the teens at night and 30 for highs. The outlook for getting the 100th silver coin over the next few days was looking bleak. After I got home from my morning hunt I decided to make a pot of bean soup. Went to the store and got all the stuff I put in it and began soaking the navy beans. Rather then glare at the computer for a couple of hours while the beans were soaking to soften them up some, I told my wife I was going to do some clad hunting at a park that has an adjacent middle school and a soccer field. It is usually good for some clad and the occasional silver jewelry piece. My first target was a state quarter and the second was a Sacagawea dollar. Then I got a solid 84 reading on the Omega and much to my surprise a 1950 wheat cent turned up. I had never found an older coin on the site and was under the impression that the school and park dated to the mid 80's. A few feet further along I dug a toasted buffalo nickel and that coin really did get my attention. I slowed way down. About ten minutes and a few quarters and dimes later, I got a 84-86 reading with depth showing 5." I thought, "no way, maybe a silver ring," which would have been o.k. Much to my surprise, I retrieved my 100th silver coin for the year...a 56d Rosie. I don't really set annual goals, but have been fortunate enough to dig over 100 silver coins each year since I retired in early 06. Now, I have got to try and learn a little about this particular site. It is large enough to keep me busy for a good while and it is not all that trashy. Thanks for reading. HH jim tn

Congratulations :clapping::hot:

Holy smokes Jim.. that's OUTSTANDING!!! I'm definitely going to be asking you for advice next season. Job well done!

Digging silver never gets old, does it Jim? I love getting that first glance of white.

Congrats on doing so well in retirement, may your golden years continue to be silver ones!

I was pulling for you, Jim. glad you made it. Now if I could find just 1 I would be happy.

Thanks everyone. Winter temps. has descended upon us here in W Tn. Mid to upper 20's with 25 mph winds makes for brutal hunting. Have a couple days of this then gradual warming into the 40's and low 50's. Hope those of you that are able to get out find the big one. Thanks again, HH jim tn

Way to go out with a bang!!!!!. I have yet to find a silver oh well !

Jim a heart felt congrats on your hard earned, and well deserved milestone :clapping:

Unfortunately a new job and a move has seriously cut into my last three months of detecting, and it looks like I'll fall a couple short of my 100 silver quest for the year :surrender:

HH,
Brian

Brian, thanks. You don't know it, but you were a inspiration for my hitting the 100 mark. Some time, late summer or early fall, you posted you had just found silver # 65, or there abouts, and I was setting on 60 silvers. Whatever your number was at the time, I was 5 behind you, anyway. I thought, "I've got to try and catch Brian." Now I know, I probably wouldn't have if you hadn't changed jobs and continued to detect, as you had been. Good luck with the new job, but don't let work interfere with the swinging, to much. (Easy for me to say being retired) HH jim tn

Jim I'm glad I could promote a little fun competition :thumbup:

I have Friday off from work, and plan to go at it for the entire day for my last 2010 silver hunting hurrah (note to self: no sleeping in :rolleyes: ).

Who knows, maybe I'll get my last few silvers to make my 100 silver milestone for 2010 :cheers:

HH,
Brian

Hope you get them for the 100 milestone. NO SLEEPING IN!! I haven't been able to get off the 100 mark since hitting it on the 10th. Hunted a good site yesterday for 4 + hours, but nothing but clad and pre 82 Memorial cents. Put in 5 1/2 hours today and besides some clad, the best I could do was 7 wheats and a 83 UN PESO. We've got strong chance of rain every day from Wed. through Jan. 1st. Good luck Fri. if you don't sleep in.:biggrin: HH jim tn
