The difference in the sound of silver?

Well at some point I have been able to tell the difference a silver coin made on my etrac(or atleast I thought I could), but now when I place a silver dime next to a clad there is very little if any difference. I dont want to do a reset because I will lose everything else but I fear that I have changed something that I should not have. Variablility? Limits? Not sure but how do you guys have these items set on your machines? Im using Multi toned conductive. Thank you.

personally I cannot tell a difference. I dig all dime signals no matter what depth because almost all silver rings I have found came in at a dime signal

a much more "hollow" sound to it whereas a silver dime will have a "tinkling", "warbly" sound to it.

I run my variability maxed to give the greatest audio pitch difference between low and high conductors.

I hunt in multi/conductive tones...exactly as I do on the Explorers.

It isn't foolproof...but most of the time I'm pretty accurate at being able to tell the difference from clad dimes and silver dimes in the 7" to 10" depth range.

I usually get fooled more by the 8" memorial cents than I do clad dimes...but anything in that depth range is a 100% dig me target anyway.

Thanks for the input guys. Yeah my variability I believe is at 25 out of 30. I'll try maxing it out. I have to look at the meter for a depth reference because my sound is all the way at max.

Hi Joe,
With the older minlelabs you could pretty much tell the silver targets but with the E trac it is quite a bit harder. That is the price we pay for the more stable dectector that can pick out good targets next to iron and trash. I have practiced with both silver and regular dimes just to" get it" and there is a difference but I am not sure most folks or myself would hear it durring the hunt unless everthing is perfect. I dig any dime signal whether or not I think its silver and have been surprised. If the coin is not to deep and the soil is damp and no other targets then I believe I would be able to tell but not as easy as it used to be for me. Hope that helps.

I've also found out the drier the ground the more I've heard what ended up being a silver as a wheatie. These are at 7-9" in depth. Of course once you get closer with the probe silver will get more "silver" but wheats will creep up there also and IH's will creep up into the wheat range.
