i have the money to buy one.but do i really need one?i hunt for recently dropped coins and jewellery.i have four detectors that i use to find these targets and i'm happy, but i am being hammered by those that think they know it all.i read a lot of other forums about these e trac's that are breaking down, true they have a three year warranty on them,if you send it into repairs to the right the right person, you may not have to pay.my first choice for a supposed up grade was for a safari.but again i was ridiculed by those that have already been stung.the e trac supposedly finds deep targets, big deal.i live in a tourist town and i do not think that the local park people would look kindly on me if i was to adopt some of these cavalier attidudes that our foreign detectorists use in their parks.having said this i am not looking for an arguement but some real input into what benifits i would gain by one of these things.i remain yours ,blowfly ps they sound fantastic??

If you hunt for recently dropped coins and jewelry then you have little need for a detector like the E-Trac. If you don't care for a display and or features, heck, save yourself a lot of money and buy a Tesoro Compadre.

The E-Trac is more for those people who need an advantage on the very hard hit sites. In my case I needed it for extremely deep coins. While its true that some of the cheaper detectors can get some really great depth, they don't have the adaptability I need.

As far as breaking down I don't see any more problems with the E-Trac than any other detector. I would actually expect more problems because most of the people that buy the E-Trac are heavy hunters. I put my E-Trac through some pretty tough use. I do my best to care for it, but I don't pamper it for sure.

Hi there Blow.

You sound like a cocky sod to me, no offence but to this Limey, that how you read.

You've answered all your own questions, so why are you bothering to ask?

E-Trac....A fab detector....AND IT'S AUSSIE.....So go out and buy one.....Help buck the recession.

You've got four....why do you need more?

Now 'go walk-about' and have a chat with yourself.

You're sure to get an augment.........Love you....TheMarshall.

Hi Blow, Nah, you don't need one for your style of hunting. If you read this forum much you will see that many of the most successful (I am not in that group) THrs are looking for old coins in heavy trash. Save your $$ for gas to do what you like with what you've got. I spend about equal time with my ET and Excal, and find way more jewelry with the Excal on the beach, about 50 gold and silver pieces this past year compared to a half dozen or so with my ET. I did get a nice silver ring yesterday with it though:detecting:

you guys have said what has been going on in my mind for sometime now.might look at a x terra 70/705 instead, more versatile i feel.blowfly, thank you .

Ooookay. I don't do this very often, but in your case, I would suggest you buy something other than the E-Trac. Some people need to learn things the hard way.

If you are not hunting for deeply buried coins in trashy areas, why bother, just save your money. I use my XT50 at tot lots, parks and school yards for newer dropped coins and do very well, I love the high tone and number 42, about 98% of the time it will be either a quarter and sometimes a $1 coin. I use the 6"HF DD coil and it does an outstanding job plus the XT50 gets very good depth not to mention it is very lightweight, a big factor over the Etrac and lots cheaper. The Etrac definately has it's place but for newly dropped coins and jewelry you'd be better of with a light machine. HH

Nope, I don't know why you would want the E-Trac if you hunt "recently dropped coins and jewellery"
If I were you, I'd be looking for a lightweight easy to use machine, and many can be had for much less than the cost of the E-Trac.
Hell, many have great success with the Garrett Ace 250. Cheap, light, and has target ID.

Don't buy a e-trac -if you don't want to dig older coins and relics that others have missed,i have 2 e-tracs,and never had a problem with them and i don't baby them,if you want to find recently lost coins ,and jewelry ,you can turn your sensitivity down and it will work as good as if not better than any machine out there, HH

I have the X terra 70 and it will do everything that you want to do and more. It is light and is killer for recent coins and jewelry in parks etc.
