The Etrac is-----

D&P-OR

Well-known member
a VERY good detector!---I think most of us would agree with that. :) -----Haveing said that, what are the (let's say 3) most important improvements (within reason) that could/should be made on a 2nd generation Etrac that you'd like to see?---I'm talking about improvements that would make a difference in THE area that really counts---in-field hunting (where the rubber hits the road).-----I feel Minelab listens to us (to a certain extent).---Who knows, (some) of the answers you give here may go on their "drawing board" for a future machine.------------Del

i would like a way to make shallow targets not so loud wile still makeing deep targets louder. that way i wouldnt have to look and see how deep the stuff was. if its loud its deeper and if its not as loud its closer to the surface. that would make it better for me

Make ferrous sound different from other high conductive targets like running a SE in ferrous.
Also there still needs to be improvement in reading the screen in bright light. ML still needs to cut out some more weight.

The e-trac does not need to be in motion to work, but the coil does, make the coil lighter by making a belt mounted/chest mounted version of the control box, so I can move the coil faster and easier, with the light weight of the coil as is, it would vastly improve performance I think, I know it would help the function of my shoulder. If nothing else make the housing detachable so I can make my own version. This might also take care of some of the screen problems people speak of, since it would be closer to your face:smoke:

I would like to be able to rotate the control box slightly to the left or right depending on your swing to better see it . I think this might also help with the reflection . Also switch to Lithium Ion battery packs which are lighter and more powerful .

i have done some pic and atmel programing in the past i dont think that would be hard to program that option into the code.
i would just give an option for it. on or off then link it to the real time depth readout or maybe just use the amplitude of the recieved signal to tell it to increase or decrease the sound gain. could even have it were you could select how deep you wanted it to boost the volume at.
if i had an ectra etrac i would jtag the eprom and disasemble the code and see whats ups and look at the stuff they didnt empliment and maybe even write some code to test some things
its hard typeing on my phone sorry for spelling

So all us open screen ferrous hunters can have a usable machine. If it is lighter or faster or better in EMI all those are good things that have nothing to do with the changes they made to the screen.

Anybody out there find any advantage to the ETRAC read out as opposed to earlier models? Anybody?

Chris

i would like to see a waterproof version with a removable, washable grip. id also like to see how wireless headphones would work out.

Not having used mine too much, but... I would like to have an hour meter built into the software/screen. Could be used for reference or re-sale value. Could even have a "total non-changable" hour meter and a "per hunt time" meter. I personally would really like to see that.

NebTrac

a better resolution, higher contrast screen so I can read the depth meter at a glance. Put the F-75 screen technology on the E-Trac!

1. I'd like to see Auto go higher to say...+5. Just so you can push the senstivity to edge of stability and still enjoy auto mangement of sensitivity.

2. Intergrated GPS, with programmable "quick mark" button that brings up a list of common coin denominations. For example: Dig coin, id coin, open GPS screen, choose denomination of coin from list (setup by user), select it, continue detecting. All GPS data, waypoints and track, downloadable via USB.

3. Standard control box cover rain proof (fully protected from the heavest of rain).

Cheers,
Greg

Make it waterproof.

Make it faster with updated processor.

Add security by coded entry numbers. That way if it is stolen, it will need to be sent to Minelab in order for it to be used. It would be reported and returned with the person who sent it in in real trouble.

Small things in no particular order

Replaceable grip
A way to turn off that annoying sound when the batteries are getting low! I mean c'mon I can get at "least" a hour after that first annoying bonk!
Promote harmony a goodwill in the world! (Ok, maybe not something they can do?)

Change the design totally...get outside the box and develop a body mounted unit that scans as you walk along covering a greater area for exploration. Then have a smaller unit to do pinpointing. The same old thing is the same old thing....Why do you have to use your arm and shoulder in exploration of targets. Broad target acquisition while walking, nothing more and then refine with a better tool to identify specific location of targets.

Get out of the box...remember the first wheels were stone they helped with heavy loads but to gain speed we have evolved to rubber and finally wings.....

1. Drop the foam grip for something better.
2. Let me chest-mount the box easily, to take the weight off the part I have to swing.
3. A wireless headphone that is reliable would be great. That cord is a real pain when moving through heavy brush!
4. Is there any way to have the machine send the signal from the coil in a downward direction ONLY? That would really help stop lots of false signals when running high sensitivity.

Here are my top three in the order I consider to be most important to me.-------(1) Improved target I.D. & seperation (at depth)----(2) Improvement on the face plate screen "glare" issue (get it on the same level-lack of glare-that the Xterra series has)----(3) Improved weight & balance.----------Del

Waterproof it and i'd be happy, the grips are easy to change, screen, who needs it? it fails when most needed on the deep stuff, maybe a seperate volume control for the shallow targets or say an adjustable limiter
