The last of the F 75 LTD

jimmyk

New member
I picked up my new F 75 LTD late yesterday afternoon. I'll post some first impressions, later. My dealer told me I was lucky to get one, becasue his distributor told him he can't get any more and this is all they are going to make. I'm skeptical, but if true, I'm glad I jumped on it, because it's a BEAST. And, very quiet. I air testid on my work bench, in my basement with a flourescent workshp light over it, and it didn't make a peep until I went into some increased sensitivity. I was air testing at sens 65, which is not too low, but not pumped either. Anyway, has anyone else heard that viscious rumor about a not making any more after the initial run? Pretty hard to believe.

keep on diggin'

Heard the rumor, but it doesn't make any sense. Make 500 of a product and stop, even if the demand is for 2500. What company doesn't want to sell more? Are they afraid of paying overtime? Don't they want to create jobs? Don't they want to make a profit?

I'll bet they continue to make the machine. I think the camouflage will disappear, but the machine will stay in production.

I made the mistake of buying another detector on the hype that if I didn't get one last spring it would be Christmas before I could. Because it was the greatest thing since Eve and everybody would find all the goodies there were to find this year.

So if I decide that I want one and can't buy one, I'll make due with what I have.

Take care, Dave

I am pretty much with you Dave. With the results I have had with my F 75, I will in all probability end up getting a LTD, if they do continue to produce them, within the next few months. Although from what I have seen posted so far the LTD does seem to be a step (at least) above the regular F 75, I personally want to see a few more users opinions and hunt results. This is not to imply any mis-trust with the current testers, just the oposite, in fact, but I personally want to see a number of other user comments, impressions and results. If it ends up being truly a one production run LIMITED EDITION, then I will only have myself to blame for not jumping on the band wagon right now. JMHO. HH jim tn

Even under florescent lights in BP disc 6 ....I tone.... 99 sens......it sounds like a machine gun but there is No mistaking a repeatable HIT ....

It actually creates more profit by causing a false sense of low suppy and high demand. Think of the gaming consoles when they're released.

Of course, it could be more mundane like the cost of board manufacturing run ... and such a small change that they just weren't sure what the demand would be.

FT has three choices:

1) Continue to make more F75 LTDs
2) Upgrade the existing F75 to "LTD" specs, remove the camo finish, remove the 5" DD coil from the kit and sell for $999
3) Drop the now obsolete modes and rebadge as a F80 with no new features for $999

I heard the same thing about the production run. Something like 289 units or something like that. This info comes from a very reliable source. My guess is that the new improved F75 will still be made but they will stop the camo and go back to the original color scheme making them still a LTD....

A fourth choice would be a new detector incorporating the technology of the new boost/cache modes.

It's obvious that First Texas is not a company content to sit on their laurels.

Yes, that is my option #3.

I just purchased a F75 LTD. The man said he will ship Tuesday. I have been a Whites man for a very long time. So I know there is going to be a steep learning curve. Instead of all the little nik-naks he included a third coil in the deal. I already have the headphones & digger. So stay tuned for questions.

The learning curve will be short, especially if you're coming off a V3. You'll run it in BP mode, ground balance, set the sensitivity and go. There are few options to fiddle with, and that is one of the main attractions of the F75 vs a high-end Minelab or Whites unit. You'll only need to learn the pinpointing technique with this coil and that is very easy as I rarely go into the pinpoint mode anyway rather wiggling the front of the coil until the target disappears.
