I like finding lead makes me more hopeful that there might be something better in the area.

Lead fishing weights tell me I'm on the right track for heavy gold. For me, with a CTX 3030, lead and gold ring in the same. So far in 2019, found 3 gold rings and 1 dental gold...and about 15 lbs of fishing weights. And, if fellow MDers are missing lead they're also missing gold.
