The Safari is Awesome

reltolbert, most welcome. i ordered the dust/rain cover from kellyco at time of purchase, but like the safari, it too,was on back order longer even than detector was (3 weeks.) had read in previous threads, many others lamenting that a back-light with on/ off switch should've be added. HH

reltolbert,

Yes, you can manually select the segments to scrim out all but the good signals, a great "cherry picking" machine.

Folks,

Be aware that the Rain/Dust cover is not waterproof and in a downpour plastic bags or wrap will still be neccessary to protect the control box. I was using my Safari on a dig in VA and we got soaked. Even though I had on the rain cover, after a few minutes my machine went whacky, playing every tone in a quick, random progression and refusing to calm down. I went back to the hotel and dried the unit the best I could and after about an hour it was back to normal. I think the problem is that the elastic panels on the back of the cover sit on top of the air vents in the back of the box and I think that moisture was able to get onto the board.

HH,
TomH

TomH,

That's good to know how you can 'cherry pick' the good stuff. If I remember correctly,
the Minelab E-Trac and/or the Explorer SE Pro does the same thing for cherry picking.

As you said, even with a dust/rain cover, one must be careful about the rain or dust
getting into the box.
Here in North Idaho, weather can change very fast.

acasto,

I found a dealer that will accept a trade-in ( BH Platinum metal detector ) on a new Safari metal detector.
That will help me with the cost of the Safari.

If you have a fleet Farm store in your area..they have great batteries . Ive been using them ...48 for $9.99
