The seeded hunt and Mattockman.

New member
I was a little concerned that Mattockman might not be enjoying his first 3 day Detecting weekend. I couldn't;t spend as much time with him as I would have liked to. But I spread myself pretty thin with all the great people I met.
The highlight of Mattockmans weekend came in the last..............................You know what? I bet Mattockman would rather tell you in his own words.

Bob, do you think you can hold on for one more day? I got home, went thru and laid out the stuff and took pics and then unpacked and put things away, downloaded pics ...etc....I am going to have to do this tommorrow......its all a process....and I am worn-out...I am not as young as you.......and us older folks need to take it easy..:)......I see there are only 252 posts to read since friday......Ketchup time....holy canole......I wish I had a laptop to travel with...it would make things easier here......:goodnight:

OK, I resized the pics.....First off I bought a new detector at the treasure show on the 19th.....happy birthday to me! to use at the planted hunt on sunday the 20th.......Ace 250 deluxe package with the larger coil and smaller coil, headphones, protector cover.....I didn't have much time to use it...about half hour or so to tinker around with it for the planted hunt on the 20th....being a Explorer xs man...It worried me.......very different....Never been to a planted hunt, I did ask a few for tips and the best tip I got was use a single freq. type and the first 15 mins. is the most important.......I didn't have time to take pics cause I had to learn this 250 and didn't want to juggle the camera and detector....so in a nut shell I found a Buffalo nickle right off the bat....then a barber dime, and then a silver quarter in a hole already dug...they buried them deep and other didn't go far enough...so I dug a little deeper and snagged it...lol.......then started finding surface wheats....sick trick.....not knowing this detector and not even sure what a surface coin does.....anyways found another dime (Merc) in another dug hole , again they didn't go deep enough....and a few more wheats and another merc.....so I finally dug some coins and the 250 is a fast swinger.....wierd......Friday the 18th at the natural hunt was tough going for me....I actually dug a button right off the bat then went down hill from there.......lots of hot rocks, and tons of iron.....waisted a lot of time trying to wish it good.......but some guys did score big time......huge field and I can't be everywhere at once....but It was just the excitement of it all that made it a great time for me.......the show was very awsome time.....I had a great time and was worried I would be going for a loan but refrained myself and only bought a few things.....LOL.....Sandy from Minelab was there and she was a wealth of knowlege and a very nice woman to talk to....all in all, I had a great time except for the problems at the hotel room, door not letting me in and the horrible coffee that I had to drink and no stinking lounge there.....and no computer to keep up with the forum....Thanks Bob for letting me know about the hunt.......Did I forget anything? :smoke:

I forgot....I didn't find any tokens.........I believe 8 of the 10 tokens were found.....I never heard what the tokens where made of so I hunted in relic mode just in case......this eliminates small iron and small foil?....newbie to the 250.....coming to the end of the hunt with the 8 min. mark to go I swang like the nut case I can be when it comes to competition and metal detecting fool I am........zoinks!.....end of game!........So my arm is sore and back not so good......I put detector in truck and marched back to tent.....now we get to get in line and get a ticket for the big draw.......grand prize $1000 dollar treasure chest. I got behind a girl named Tamara and another guy cut in front of me....no problem chuck....I am in no big hurry to drive home empty handed. I swear I tried my hardest and no tokens so I knew I would go home empty handed.....Still had a great time due to the excitement and all......but stayed for the drawings of the tokens found.......what a gas....I can't remember it exact but there was a guy who won a gold coin....NICE!....and then another guy won a gold detector and he didn't want another detector and the guy that won the gold coin said hey I will trade ya.....He did.....lol.......so on and so on...the same old guy found 2 tokens( inwhich I passed a few times sharing conversation with him, Nice Guy) and he got a nice detector pro water resistant detector.....he kept that.......but people where making him offers.....lol.....I finally saw these tokens and they were thin coppers....sadley I felt I failed all weekend and was tired of bad coffee at the hotel and just wanted to go home......I had fun but just wanted to win something even if it was a hat or tee shirt. Bob was to my amazement a very funny guy...but when he had to be all business he played his part like a champ. I firgured him to be straight lace and all bussiness but I got to see and hear his humor which made the trip nice. He even gave me a Minelab coffee cup...cool....see, I am easy to Mariposa.....it don;t take much to make me happy......LOL......anyways....so all the detectors and prizes were given away to the token finders.....so now I am thinking it's time to get ready to head out....but I forgot about the ticket for the treasure chest.......and the guy started out with 8.....My first thought was...yeah all the #'s start with 8........then he says 9...........Now I think ok I have 89- so I have a 1 in 10 chance to win.......LOL.......yeah right!......Then I said hey wait a minute!(to myself) Its my birthday weekend and I must think possitive ........come on VIRG!!!!!! say 5 chuck say five!!.......he then says 5......Thats ME!....895.......I WON!.......I never looked at the treasure chest before hand and hoped a hat or tee-shirt was there........lol.......I got more than I wanted....Not to mention a free subscription to a couple of mags for th's...a pinpointer, 2 diff. type flashlights, one to put on forehead and one to mount to detector rod....how cool is that...an awsome real leather bag to carrie my stuff, a all purpose screw driver with attachments, 2 scales, one for pocket and one for home,a coin case to display and protect, a book, Killer bee head phones( will go good with the new purchase) a Lesche digger(always wanted one) and tons of old coins and silver and gold jewlery........but me being me.......I really like the treasure chest it come in!!!.......Nice!.......What a trip this has been!.....Thanks again Bob and all the people involved and hope to wake up and smell the coffee and get pinched to make sure it is all real!........Amen Brother!

I tried to find info on it but couldn't come up with anything definite. Took me a while to figure out the words were "LOUIS XVI ROI | DES FRANCOIS". (Worked backwards from Francois). Do you have a pic of the reverse?

Can't find anything on that specific coin (even tried searching HA (but might not have been able to do it right)) but it looks like the bronze 2 sol version is worth $1-300, depending on condition. And there's a counterfeit 30 sol for sale on eBay for 75.

That Treasure Chest is LOADED!!!! WOW!!!! Bet you will be at the next Planted Hunt for sure! Congrats on your Lucky Ticket and Winning the Jackpot. Good Luck and HH.
