The soul

Nauti

Well-known member
Can somebody explain the concept of us each having a soul and how it affects us.I believe that when we are born each of us is like an empty computer that is programmed by all aspects of social interaction.......if this is so where does the soul fit into the equation.

After God has completed His work, of creating, he made man.

Genesis 2:7

Viewing the King James Version.

"And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul".

Neil,

If you were to go to Google.Com and download a free bible app called the 'Seventh-Day Adventist Church', you will find the answer, to your question concerning the soul, and so much more. After you've downloaded the free app, open it up. About mid way down the page, you will see a topic called Bible Talk. This is a collection of 15 minute recordings on God's Word; about what the Bible says. I think you'd find it very interesting, informative, as well as educational. And it's FREE!

The app can be downloaded to your smart phone, your tablet, or even your lap-top computer @ Google Bible Apps

Great question! What your talking about is called "Tabula Rasa" Latin for "blank slate". It is a belief that is held that we are born with this "blank slate". This thought was held by numerous individuals in the last 100 years, including Freud and B.F. Skinner. The question I would have is where does your own thinking originate? Each of us comes from some sort of "foundation" in our thinking, a framework that builds our own constructs of our thinking. The "soul" has been an elusive thing to proove, and I still am not convinced as of yet it is a varifiable entity. I do believe we are coming closer to show evidence of such a thing. I believe that the soul is truely who we are, it is a part of creation, and it is our consiousness. I believe humans are spiritual beings in a physical body on this earth. Currently there is no technology that can prove that the sould exists, just as there was no technology prior to 1900 to prove that radio waves existed, ahhh.... but radio waves existed in 1890 even though we could not prove such a thing.

I see and believe that we are getting closer to prove possibly that the soul exists, though much of the data is anecdotal. There are numerous researchers that are looking at such studies. Two of those researchers you should begin to look at and read as you begin your due diligence are: 1. Dr. Pim Van Lommel, a Dutch Cardiologist who recently (2 years ago) wrote a book after years of observation and longitudinal studies titled: Consciousness Beyond Life: The Science of the Near-Death Experience. Here is an inverview with Dr. Van Lommel from youtube: Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wisQIptNJM0 and then part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKqOd1CF2Y8 . The 2nd researcher in this area of "soul/consiousness" is Dr. Jeffrey Long, Radiaton Oncologist. In the last year, he wrote the book "Evidence of the Afterlife" after his years of working, and researching dying patients. Here is a youtube interview with Dr. Long: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwyVFW9kT8k There are many other interview with these Researchers, and many other individuals seeking to make an impact in this field. These two men are a good start to your journey. I look forward to your continued thoughts on this topic.

Great reply. This is interesting....i enjoyed reading your response and watching the video. These near death experiences certainly put forward a strong argument that the body may contain something spiritual..........but what about the millions of people who do not have these experiences in a near death situation?

Niel,

In reference to the soul, the soul is part of our person.
"And the very God of peace santify you wholly; and I
pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be pre-
served blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus
Christ."
1Thessalonians 5:23

Paul teaches us here that we humans are tripartite beings.
That is, we have three seperate parts- the body, the soul
(which is our conscious intellect ,will, and emotions), and the
spirit. He plainly states that all three must be cleansed and
committed to Jesus, and that Jesus himself must be enable
us to keep all three parts "blameless" until His return.

Genesis 2:7 says,

"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and
breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

There is a natural body and there is a spiritual body 1 Corinthians 15:44

This one is important if you haven't accepted Jesus as your savior.
Romans 10: 9,10 and 11

If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus,
and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall
be saved. For it is with the heart that one believes unto righteousnes, and
with mouth that confession is made unto salvation. For the scriptures says
whoever believes on Him shall not be put to shame.

These verses are from memory Romans 10:9-11 so hopefully they are close!

Simply put if you pray to God and tell Him that you believe that He sent His
Son into the world to die for your sins, and you believe that Jesus defeated death
when He rose from the dead you will be saved.

God Bless! George

Just the fact that Humans have been pondering this subject all over the globe and throughout the years makes you wonder why? Why do Humans think about such things? Why are you thinking about such a thing Neil? What a wonderful mind Humans have! Is there more to us than an empty data storage system? ..All the best in your search!

Back at you, George! All I can tell you is, once I was blind, and now I can see! The rest are just details.

Nothing better than living outside of the chains that once bound us!
Christ died accursed of the law that we might not be slaves to the law!
We are to use it as guide but don't let the fact of our imperfections enthral us. God sent
His son knowing that we could not keep his Law without blame. Christ died for our blame
or sinful nature. Thank You God for eyes wide open!

The problem I have with the concept of a soul is this.If for instance a new born child was taken away from its mother the instant it was born and placed in a dark room with no outside stimulation whatsoever, what would that child become? The child would have no concept of anything whatsoever......it would literally be an empty entity with no thoughts,no knowledge and no personality......no soul to speak of.This means that it is just a lifeform that has not been conditioned by interaction with others of its species.....just like an unprogrammed computer.A belief in God and religion is a concept that is learned through others that have the same beliefs and knowledge and not something we are born with.....it is another program for our inbuilt computer so to speak. This leads me to another point. There are tribes around the world who have not been touched by christianity and some that do not worship Gods at all........what will happen to these people when they have died without asking God to forgive their sins? Also what will happen to the people who have led good lives......people who devote their time to help others less fortunate than themselves but choose not to believe in God.....will these people suffer as a result?

Neil, you are either right or wrong, just as we are...both beliefs take a little faith to support and defend. The question is, what would be the outcome of YOUR personal decision either way? It is a personal decision that only you can make, There either is or is not a God...there either is or is not a soul. The Mysterys we wrestle with!

Neil, the bible states that our righteousness is as filthy rags to God
not by works lest any man should boast.Ephesians 2:9 So in saying
this will people go to hell for being good people! Yes, salvation is a free gift and if your given a
gift and you place that gift in a dark closet and you never open it or think about
again have you really received the gift. No, you received the box the contents
were never received. To accept a gift you must open it. What God has given to
each and every one of us is a gift of salvation, but also He has given us the gift
of choice. You can choose to accept the gift of eternal life or reject it. There is
nothing you as a mere mortal can do to earn salvation it all ready has been done.
When Jesus died on the cross He stated it is finished. What He was saying was the
the whole purpose and plan of salvation was completed at that point.
The reason we are still here is because all people groups have not been reached
with the gospel. The bible has been interpreted into 469 languages and there are 2547
partial translations which spread the Good News. God is not willing that any should perish
but that all should have eternal life. Second Peter 3:9 This meaning God does not want
anyone to go to hell period. God Bless YOU I hope this helps!

This may be a good explanation for the present but what about all those people that have died in the past not knowing of God?These people never had the choice of accepting or rejecting eternal life so what happened to them? Also nobody has answered the question of the soul with regards to the example I gave.
