All,
Hypothetically speaking, if you could only have 1 (ONE) metal detector, what one would it be?

Elton,
Thanks for the reply, what type of hunting do you do with the Teknetics and what part of the world are ya from???

I prefer Minelab machines mainly because once I learned the tones(somewhat) My deep finds and overall finds went up way up. Now I've had too many birthdays to change much. But I think once someone learns their machine and start making more quality and quantity finds regardless of who made it that is all of our desires and goals. Some people can take any machine and have it mastered in a short while but I can't. Sorry I sound like some others on the forum you ask them what time it is and they tell you how to build a clock. HH :minelab::teknetics::goodnight:

You just can't have a real answer because they still haven't produced a detector that does it all. Positive salt beach conditions are so different from the negative ground mineralisation on land.

For wet salt I prefer a Deepstar P.I., not waterproof so to wade or dive it would have to be an Aquastar. Both have insufficient discrimination for land use so there a higher frequency motion machine with DD coil such as the T2 or T2 LTD. To go deeper and for relics the Nautilus DMC 2b. House searching I prefer a non motion detector and for an archaelogical spoil heap its better to sacrifice depth for iron see through which is very different to iron discrimination.

I feel the Minelab P.I.'s over the years have always been to expensive and to heavy but there's areas of the world where only their alternating pulse length machines can cope.

I operate out of the U.K. but spend around three months abroad trying to avoid the rain and snow. I would love it if they could produce an all round machine but there's not one in production yet. Same with headphones. To get the best out of a detector it needs matched headphones so I have five different brands.

Sorry not to have provided the sort of answer you want but it all comes down to the fact thats whats best in one area could be the worse in another. The picture is a few of my land/beach detectors. I also have wading/diving machines of various brands that are not featured. All get used at times but the specialist machines tend to be optimised for one task.I always carry an Eric Foster P.I. and a T2 in the back of the car so sea and beach are covered then return with the big guns as required.

Hershey1 thanks for thr reply buddy, the minelabs seem really popular here in the USA!

UK Brian,
That looks somewhat like my rifle collection, believe me i TOTALLY understand the not one detector/rifle for everything , man just ask my wife  . I am a PADI certified rescue diver and have never thought of detecting underwater, the California coast just doesnt lend itself to such activities as a matter of fact if you're in neeed of some under water video gear PM me im going to put a housing up for sale as it never gets used...

That is a tough one because it depends on a lot.

Where do you hunt? A beach detector is usually not the best thing to use at parks and vice versa.

If I had to answer the question, and don't laugh here, but I'd probably have to say the Detectorpro Wader.

I can use it at the beach (everywhere: dry sand, wet sand, surf) or at the parks, fields, etc.

It has a good discriminator (tone only), waterproof to 6 feet, and is lightweight.

If depth is your primary consideration, the Wader won't work. It gets 6"-8" tops.

But in terms of diversability, the Wader would be tough to beat, IMHO.

JeepCJ5,

I'm in mid Michigan with fairly bland soil. My signature line minus the 305 plus 2 additional coils (one smaller one larger) would total out 1500+/-. A V3i with the same would probably crowd your 2k mark. The question is "what for?"

You have an excellent detector in that ML XT505 with the coils. As you learn the machine, you will find yourself getting deeper and better treasure.

Enjoy!

hi elton!
i understand you have an f-75 now!
how do you like it?

jmaryt:

Yes I have an F75 and a T2 6.5 ... I like them both. T2 is my favorite coin detector..F75 seems to be a little better working relic type sites..ie: Old farm houses etc.. Down side is the F75 I had before had some real emi issues. I hope this one is a little better .. I did figure out with the F75 running high sens is not critical to getting very deep targets. It hits extremely well at 40 and 45 sens setting in the 6 to 8" range on many coins. I do need to get myself a 5" DD coil for it. I have 11DD, 10" Concentric, and 4x6 con....

yeah!..elton!..you are right!..i find that "lower" sensitivity will do the job at various sites that have e.m.i
i want to try the 5" dd coil too!

(h.h.!)

You guys need the 5" coil. The bad thing about putting it on is it it tough to take back off. It is deadly in trash and gets very good depth. HH jim tn

Have the T-2, F-75 , CZ 3D and some others. My main detector use to be the Explorer SE and now it's the E- trac. If you're looking for old coins and hit the beaches too you can't go wrong with the Explorer SE (1300.00). Add the sunray probe for 190.00, sunray headphones for 130.00, and sunray's 8" coil (200.00?). This would be a top of the line outfit for coins and beach. Pretty sure cost would be under 2000. You would want the SE with the pro coil. If you check around you can get a free lesche digger included too .

i think you are right !..jim!
i got the 4x6" and it is ok,but according to many, the 5" dd coil out hunts it in the junk!
just sayin'

White's MXT with full compliment of coils and the Sunray pinpointer.

Given my age and the type of hunting I now mainly do I would have to say my White's XLT, a Lesche digger and a Garret Pro Pointer. Okay?
