Thinking about that E-trac thing..

I relize now I was stupid for getting rid of my Explore II. I thought it was too heavy and took all the fun out of detecting. I figured I was missing a lot of gold targets cause I was only listening for those sweet high flutty tones. So I sold it and bought a used Tesoro Bandido 2

Go for the E-Trac, It finds gold as well as deep old coins. I found a 1862 $1.00 Gold Piece with mine in the rain at the Blue & Grey Relic Hunt in Virginia Last March. This is the best machine I have ever used and I have been in this hobby since I was 15 years old in 1968. I have used every kind of detector that has been made since that time. Get Andy Sabach's book on Explorer & E-Trac to help you more than the Manual, & I am in the Photo section with my First day find & the second day finds. You will love this machine. Get the X-1 Pinpointer as well to attach to the machine. And dig signals on the 12 line. That is where all the goodies fall. HH...Jesse.

I've had mine for about 10 months and my wife bought mine for me for my birthday. I love them both!! :inlove:

GET A GOOD DIGGER TOO. :goodnight:

Just remember, they wont be coming from Australia anymore, there future will be Korea or China or something like that.I cant remember exactly. They Sold out. :(

"It there really that big of a difference between the two?"

Only swung an SE for about 4 hours one day but one thing you might like is that the E-Trac seems a little more "balanced" so it might be easier to swing for you. Target separation seems better from people say as well. There are other improvements but it will probably depend on what you are looking for.

"Is there any real advantage to be able to download different programs rather then just manually make your settings?"

I have had mine for a year now and have used this feature 3 times. Once when I first got it to see how it worked, a second time to store some settings / screens I had "dialed" in while in the field, and a third time when I did a full reset in the field. I did it because the E-Trac kept cutting out so I thought it might help. I apparently had "thought" I put new batteries in that morning but they were not... DUH!! Anyway, yes it did come in handy to be able to restore my settings. Re-creating the screens would have taken some time! Is it necessary? Probably not!

"Will my wife forgive me when I bring home another detector. One that cost over a grand???"

Don't really want to even touch this one... maybe let her buy something she want's like a big screen TV to watch sports, I mean the cooking channel on! :spin:

Good luck! And even if you don't end up getting anything, the Tesoro will always be there waiting to go out and find stuff!

Minelab is now a part of CODAN Limited, a Corporation started in 1959 and based in Australia. Where the machines are assembled I don't know. They are still very excellent machines, as posts show they are capable of locating very nice finds. I have had an XS for 9 years or so and an E-Trac for 16 months. I like the ability with the E-Trac to download settings to the computer. The programs can then be called up and used in the E-Trac emulator or downloaded back to the machine, if for some reason you lose a program, or have changed programming in the machine. Whatever your choice, Good Luck.

Used Explorer SE Pros are real bargains right now. People selling to buy the next great thing... whether it be an E-Trac or a V3. The E-Trac is easier to use in my opinion, but the performance is similar to the SE Pro. If you liked the Exp II and are used to it, I bet you'd do well with the SE Pro.

I've got a proverb I've stood by for a long time: Seek forgiveness........not approval.

The E-TRAC is NOT and Explorer and will outhunt an SE... IMO. It is also more comfortable.

Mate what forum is this? Of course everyone is going to say it's better than an SE. I've had most of them, and this E-Trac beats them all, hands down! But you have to be patient, and take the time to learn it. If you are having trouble with the weight, get one of DOC's Swingy Thingys. Everyone complains about the weight, but no one does anything about it. The Swingy Thingy is like the X-1 Probe, until you get one you don't know how you survived without it.:surprised:

That's good!

Hey Hungry you're right! Everyone here is biased! ('cept Nick.) I'll re-post on White's and see what they say about the e-trac!
Actually I figure a lot of e-trac users have owned an Explorer or two and I'd get the most unbiased, honest opinion here because
they loved thier Explorers before the e-trac came out. I still might just get a SE. Or....half a dozen Ace 250's! :spin:

Remember these words and utter them on your death bed: "honey, don't sell the metal detector for what I said I paid for it."
