Thinking XP Deus or Minelab Equinox 800

Waterdog

Well-known member
I am thinking about adding to my lineup of metal detectors. I mainly coinshoot around northern california or hit the beach looking for coins and jewerly .
Any idea ?

You might want to ask around to see if anyone has tried the XP ORX on the wet salt beach. Unlike the Deus, It actually has a salt mode built in. The Equinox is better on the wet salt beach than the Deus but in my opinion the Deus or ORX outshines the Equinox everywhere else.

The ORX works very well on the wet sand, so does the Deus, I have 2 videos on the subject on the metal detector Skill School channel.

The Deus does have a salt mode under the GB menu, scroll down to Beach and select YES.
I hope this helps.

I just got an XP ORX and already have an equinox 800.
I will be finding out soon enough which one I begin to favor. I’m mainly
a relic hunter, and never hunt beaches. ORX wins for handling even with
the s-shaft modification I did on my equinox which improved balance.

I have used the XP Deus on the beach, It did as good as any other beach detector. YOU MUST put it in salt mode, if not it will not balance, I have got ear ring back and small stud ear rings I don,t go in deep water, that is home to big fish, I don't want them in my home so I stay out of his home. The XP will hunt in water it set up to. just always use Gold Field and it will find every thing. If you have a XP try it you will see. Good luck flintstone

I have used both. If you are more of a coin hunter the Equinox is generally a better machine. Now with that being said I sold mine Equinox 800 and only use the Deus. I am also a coin shooter but because of having many hours on the Deus I prefer it over the Minelab.

Both machines are excellent but for coins I would always suggest the Minelab over the Deus.

Nox would my preference for coin shooting and beach with better target ID, it covers high/low conducters in multi freq and also better on mineralized ground.
Deus excels on ploughed ground with near surface iron, and goes deep on low mineral soil like Calabash diggers.
