You guy's have got to see this post I found in another forum ... WOW !!!

This man found (138) larger silver coins that are dated from the 1770's to 1830's in one location - with a total weight of 4 1/2 lbs. !!!

Here's the link to the story and photo's >>> http://forum.$#@&*^/index.php?PHPSESSID=mqe4k5ni2g5tvau1rnjsvjkhf0&topic=416719.0

Does everyone think this is on the level? I'm wondering why they are all tarnished and all essentially the same... 1/2's or dollars in the same date ranges. Most silvers I find are all shinney; tarnished means exposure to air. Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but thats alot in one spot. Any thoughts?

The tarnished look is from exposure to water, any silver i find near water looks like that. The finder says he found them by a river ford so it makes sense to me.

I think they were actually in the river where the ford was located. He used an AT Pro to find them, which is a submersible detector.

I'm pretty sure that's on the level, I look forward to reading the magazine article featuring the story when it's released.

Brian

The find of a lifetime. If only the coins could tell the story of how they got there. Did he mention how large an area they were spread? The condition of some of the coins is unbelievable makes me wonder if they were the victim of some long ago robbery of a coin collection.

I thought the tarnish was the best indicator it was for real. I've dug a lot of old silver that had the same tarnish. I would have been skeptical had they all been shiny.

Once in a lifetime find for sure.
