This has me confused

Hunting today at a church grove, MXT Pro in relic mode using iron ID tone setting. Did adjustments and gb and using 6x8 Sef coil. Got repeatable high tone but VDI was in negative numbers and IDing as iron. PP showed 2 inches so dug it. Out popped an Indian Head nickel. Rescanned hole and no other targets.

[size=large]same thing happened to me with my xlt. said -85 but tone said good target. so i dug it and it was a quarter. someone said it had to deal with wrapparound. still don't understand it. the neg number was the same as the pos would have been but the tone was there.
i've had the same happen with my mxt. wonder how many coins i've passed cause i didn't dig? just figured the iron was fooling me. will have to dig a few just to be sure now. i didn't think wrap-around worked on the mxt.

Had it happen by giving me a negitive or zero reading. most of the time target was close to iron or something like that. Never thought about the wrap around doing that. Need to ask one of the whites boys on their site.

I have never heard of wrap that low on the VDI scale, wrap does happen sometimes at the top of the scale though. Almost always if your reading does not match the target, you have something else nearby to confuse the machine. In dirtanglers case, it could have been a mineral pocket or an iron object that was discriminated out after the recovery to make it seem that nothing else was there. VDI readings can also be off by not having a good ground balance or it could have just been a gremlin......... You are using a computerized machine so it is not uncommon for strange things happening from time to time. Unless it is something that happens often, I wouldn't worry.
