Went to an old park yesterday. Got a silver quarter and dime, an indian head penny, 3 buffalos and the usual clad. I took a picture of the indian head and didn't realize what good shape it was in until I saw the picture. I havent even cleaned it up yet. What do you think?

Very nice Bill! You could soak it in some olive oil for a week or two. That will loosen the remaining dirt.

It looks great and I too would have a hard time cleaning it as well. I think a mild bath in olive oil would be fine. This is just my opinion, but I like my copper darker with the petina.

Excellent find Bill,

absolutely beautiful, it will clean up MUCH nicer, I can tell just but looking at it. It has a nice solid green patina, just take some toothpicks and pick away the dirt, wooden toothpicks are MUCH softer than copper and you will not hurt it one bit, Trust me.........I have dug 166 indians with my etrac and I clean EVERY single one the SAME way.

water, dish soap, and a toothbrush, I get it wet, apply some soap, and scrub away with the toothbrush, when majority of the dirt is gone, I dry the coin, and use the toothpick to remove all the dirt from between the letters, date, etc.....

here is one comparable shape to yours but much cleaner because I removed ALL the dirt. Do not be afraid to use my method, it will be fine!

Beautiful coin G4Ever, thats what they should look like and I too will give your method a shot on mine.

Congrats again Bill on your 1888,

Moose
