Here's my weekends finds. Not much but I had fun. First a little story... The Three Rosies. About two years ago I stumbled upon a school that was built around 1940 but no longer in use.It looked like a very promising site. At that time I had an EXPII with a 12 inch coil.I searched this place three or four times and all I could come up with was a wheat or two_One evening while I was hunting a car pulls up and a tall fellow gets out. He's wearing a tee shirt with the words State Police on the front.I'm thinking here we go until I here him say..find anything good? Then he asks if I would mind if he joined me and of course I said why not.Well as it turned out he was the President of a local club.We hunted for about one hour until it started getting dark so we headed for the cars where we talked a bit.He then tells me that this place had been hunted pretty hard for quite some time I then asked him if there might be any silver left and he said maybe but good luck finding it.
Ok now flash forward. I'm driving back from a job site when I run out of gas...Darn. So here I am beside the road with a dead car and I'm right in front of the old school.I've got to wait for AAA.What should I do to kill time.Yes I've got the SE with me so what the hey. I walk over to a clump of trees by a crumbling walk way that I must have gone over 10 times before.I start swinging the coil and beep beep I get a good signal.Alum. I stand up take two steps and swing again beep beep eight inches later and I'm lookin at a 52 rosie..hum.I stand up take two steps swing again..beep beep..6 inches later and I'm lookin at a 46 rosie. I then see the AAA guy coming so it's time to go.I went back the next morning and found a 53 rosie.I don't know what the lesson is other than I guess a site will always have a surprise waiting if you just give it one more go.

Nice digs! Particularly on the older Mercs. Love to see a better pic of the Mercs.

some interesting things there. Pls post some more detailed pics if you have a chance. I especially like the tag. Great finds and great job!

I'd like to ID a couple of them. The thing that looks like a flat golf ball.I've found one just like that only square. The thing that looks like a cane top or something.I also have a couple more like that.
I'll post some more pics.GR

Goin to Maine on vacation soon.Man I hope I can break away every now and then.My relatives live in soon very old houses.GR

I could not get my old Canon scanner to work with Windows Vista.Got a couple of better pics. The 1917 had a lot of black junk on it.I cleaned it with tooth paste but it is very pitted. The 26 on the other hand is sweet.GR

Thx for the pics.

Can't quite tell--any split bands on the '26?

Nice finds, GR. A post like this can help us have a little hope & not get too discouraged when we are at a site & find out it has been really worked over hard.

Take care & HH.

Dan.

Some times I think well that's it when I go to a site that I've been to over and over again and I'm just not finding anything.I'll wait a couple of months or even a whole season and then go back.
I'm usually surprised at what I can still dig up.GR

And nice little story also. Yep! No site will ever be truly "Worked Out" unless you took all the Dirt away and ran it through a Screen so yes, there will always be some kind of Surprise waiting to be found, even at the most heavily pounded areas. Nice finds and Continued Success, Good Luck and HH.
