Thoughts on settings for detecting old homes?

I am aware that everyone is still learning the NOX. I have the 800 and have watched videos over and over again. I realize there are no magic answers but I would greatly appreciate a few pointers. Thank you in advance! Peggy

Settings wise it really depends on the site...
Is there alot of modern trash?
Is there alot of old rusty nails or alot of small and big iron?
Soil plays a big part as well... what type of targets are you looking for? High conductors or mid-low?

Peggy,

OutlawDetectors has asked you the right questions. It depends on the site, and what targets you are "targeting."

Old home sites -- especially ones with a mix of square nails, and tons of non-ferrous trash, can be really tough. High recovery speed, and moving slow, plus likely a low iron bias to help with masked targets, will probably be good. Which mode, will somewhat depend on what types of targets you seek...

I lived in Boise now and have good luck getting on private residences. Generally around the gomes are the nails but I con’t find a lot of trash. Shell casings are common. I lhope for old coins and relics and if a oiece of jewelry wants to make an appearance that works

To me all modes are pretty close as far as if one hits the target the other will some of you could feel different but I've tested and switched only if the target is super deep one could sound off as little better than the other.excluding beach and gold I don't use them and it's just my opinion.recovery 6 park or field, iron bias 2 stop falsing some and you'll be fine.iron bias at 2 doesn't do anything to recovery that I can tell I've tested nails buried above a qaurter, dime, penny 1 inch away and 3inches above, coins at 7 inches and iron bias at 2 doesn't change anything! Good luck
