Thursday and Friday's Finds.

James N.D.

New member
Didn't get out on Saturday or Sunday due to it being windy and cold out. But I met my quota anyways for Silver on Thurs. and Friday. The temp. was in the upper 40's so it was nice enough to hunt those days. I think this might just be the last of my finds for the year since the weather is going to start getting really cold now and it won't take long for the ground to freeze when this happens. But I did pretty well this year and I just look forward to next year and hoping I can come close or find more than what I found this year. Later on I will post my totals after I know for sure what I have found and if the weather is going to turn for the worst. Now for what I found the last 2 times out. Sorry guys, but I found a few more Silver to add to my collection again. 11 to be exact. 5 on Thurs. and 6 on Friday. They consisted of 1 Washington Quarter dated 1947-s, 1 Barber Dime dated 1914, 6 Mercury Dimes dated 1920,1920-d,1935-d,1936,1940,1941, 2 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1946-d,1952-d, and 1 Canadian Dime dated 1944. I also found a Good For Token. It says Good For 5c In Trade on the Front with the letter M in the middle and the Back says Meng & Garvik Crookston, Minn. with the letter M in the center. It was folded almost completely over but I managed to straighten it back out without damaging it. I also found a Clad Kennedy Half Dollar dated 1978-d. Rick(ND) had some kind of Acid he tried on it and it got rid of the dark color that it was and left it a kind of Reddish color. I think the Copper was leeching thru the coin to make it this color. I also found 2 more Older Canadian Pennies dated 1947 and 1952. I am putting the Canadian Pennies with the Kennedy Half together in 1 Pic. I also found 29 Wheat Pennies dated 1918,1929,1929-d,1930,1936-d,1938,1940,(2)1940-s,(3)1942-d,(2)1944-d,1944-s,(2)1945,(2)1945-d,(4)1946-d,1949-d,(2)1950-d,1952-d,1953-d, and 1955-d. And the last thing I found was a Metal Leaf that is Gold Plated. It must have been a Pin at one time. So Good Luck and HH to you all that are in a warmer climate and get out during this upcoming week. [attachment 41730 Silver.jpg][attachment 41731 TokenFront.jpg][attachment 41733 TokenBack.jpg][attachment 41734 KennedyHalfandCanadianCents.jpg][attachment 41740 Wheats.jpg][attachment 41741 GPLeaf.jpg]

That's a very nice haul James! Are you hunting parks? Fairgrounds?

Your wheats come out of the ground looking very nice. Most of the time ours come out like that, but I am hunting a different park and they come out caked with green.

nice ones james. Just got back from ricks place and picked up here new toy and is she smiling. I think i am in big trouble for nxt yr.:yikes:

Very nice two days James. I just may have to fly up to your neck of the woods next spring, i think you guys in N.D. need some help with all that silver.
Hope you get some more good weather so you can bring more home with you before it freezes. HH

Jerry

Even though I won't be out detecting till spring that everyone else that is more fortunate in a warmer climate will keep finding lots of great stuff and posting it. I might get the urge of wanting to get out but I have plenty of Centennial Books to get caught up on which will lead me to more great spots if I am lucky next year. Thanks SNOWY for the post and yes, that is a lot of Silver. Good Luck and HH.

At least you did make a few nice finds including that 1909-s Indian Head you lucky dog you. Even though you didn't get out much this year just makes it more enjoyable next year. More Finds! I hope you get out during the week if possible and make at least a couple more nice finds before the BIG FREEZE! Good Luck and HH to you Buddy!

It would be nice but Rick(ND) would say that I am waaaaaayyy over my quota for the year anyways. Right Rick!!! I found enough to make me happy if it does freeze but it sure would be nice to get out one more time. But then again, I would be saying that again next time I went out so winter won't hold off forever. Thanks again Jerry and Good Luck and HH.

that I hit a good spot the last Hour I was at the site and found the 6 Silver and a few Pennies. I thought I was going to get skunked on Silver on Friday but then BAM!!!, 3 Silver just like that in a row. I guess if it does freeze that I will know just where to start off next year for Silver. Thanks again TomTowns and I hope you find a few nice things during this week. Good Luck and HH.

Very Big Trouble! She should make some very nice finds with it next year. I just hope that she leaves you a few coins though! Glad to hear she likes the Explorer SE and I wish you both the best of luck next year with it. Good Luck and HH.

Those Wheats are in worse shape than you think. They too were caked with Green Stuff but I took a fine Brass Brush and ran the Coin and then the Brush under the water and then I scrubbed the Coin to get the Green buid-up off of it. Peroxide would work too but it takes a little longer. This spot I have been recently hunting was an old Fairgrounds at one time. Now a Ballpark. I detected it earlier this summer and found a lot of stuff which included the Canadian Half and a Barber Half if you remember seeing them posted by me. I decided to hit a few other spots to see what were at them and decided to hit this old Faigrounds a few more times. I didn't think there was that much stuff left but even in areas I worked before I am still popping out Silver and such. It must be the different angles I come accross them. Thanks Yooper and I hope you continue finding those Barbers of recent. Good Luck and HH.

As alway's :)
It was 73 degrees here, sunny with a easy breeze all day yesterday so me an a local fellow went out to where the county had removed some beat up houses.
Man was it junky, oldest thing we dug were wheaties in the teens but it was nice getting out to dig.
Looking forward to seeing your total silver for the year pics.
H.H.
Mike

Must be everybody up there in ND was either working too hard to detect or just couldn't afford a detector?

I sure wish I had places to hunt in this soon to be third-world state called Michigan.

Clear blue sky,
cool breeze,
cicadas shreiking in the trees...

Really lookin' like early summer now Down-under.

If you don't have many places to go, get over to your local library and see if you can't find any history on surrounding towns. This is where you will possibly find hidden and long forgotten spots that could possibly be loaded with old coins. That's how you become very successful in this hobby, RESEARCH! Thanks for the response Tony and Good Luck and HH.
