Man. Awesome.I'm sure you will find a gold coin someday, on the odd occasion, as a detector finds USA gold coins crop up in the UK This is an unlucky story of a jar of American eagles being found.
when a man dug his garden soon after buying his house for a fish pond in London, he found a hoard of 80 gold Double Eagle $20 pieces, dating from between 1854 and 1913, in a Hackney garden. He reported it to the authorities under the Treasurer's Act. The BM advertised the find, looking for people to come forward.
His mates were calling him the "King of Bling" This was short-lived, however, as an executor/descendant of the previous owner/land who had proof laid claim to them, and they were swiftly handed over to him by the British Museum. He couldn't make out what happened to them after his late grandfather died. The new owner who found them got nothing..
The original house, when the coins were buried, was blown up during WW2 and all the occupants were killed. A relative looked through the rubble and couldn't find the coins, and a new house was built on the site. The coin's value was estimated at 100k in 2011, but probably a lot more, as the BM always undervalues just in case they get to acquire the find
