Tip: has anyone heard of Happich "Simichrome Polish?".....................

This is a mild polish that we use on horse bits, and the metal parts of a saddle. Years ago, I discovered that it was mild enough to use in cleaning up painted metal detector control boxes and the painted coil shafts. Every so often, I give my metal detectors a good cleaning because I am a firm believer that you take care of your tools and they will serve you well. I would use caution on the painted lettering on the control box when using "Simichrome Polish," use it lightly there. I also use a paint brush to clean around the knobs and battery compartment area, and will use a common garage vacuum cleaner to remove dust. Happich "Simichrome Polish" is made in Germany and can be found in auto parts stores or motorcycle shops. Kelley (Texas) :)

Yep, it's great stuff. I took a stainless steel S&W model 66 and polished it on a buffing wheel with Simichrome back in the 70's. Came out looking like a mirror nickel plated one. It's hard to find now days but is about the best polishing past I've ever seen.
