To E-trac or not?

To all you e-trac users:

Is the e-trac worth the 1500.00 dollars compared to other high end detectors. Been detecting for about 25 years now, and my high end machine is a DFX. Used about every other high end detector sold over the years. One of my favorites was the original eagle spectrum. Just really want an honest assessment against the DFX, and others before I tear my wallet up.

absolutely worth EVERY cent........this detector amazes me time and time again. The way it can pluck coins out from BESIDE and even UNDER iron is simply amazing. There is NOT a better coin detector on the market.
 
Like Goes4ever says there isn't any better, and like you I've owned numerous top end machines and NONE will touch this one.
 
I forgot to mention 2 of the guys I hunt with had DFX machines and after hunting with me and my etrac they got sick of me walking behind them and finding coins they walked right over. They traded in their DFX for an etrac and never looked back
 
i've only been hunting for 2 years , my partner for 40...and he had a whites then a minelab se....tried that a few times last year....we each bought an etrac about 6 weeks ago....so far over 30 colonials and a solid gold bracelet....know we have to do all the cellar holes and fields again with the etrac....almost evertime we find coins there is a nail in the hole with it....never would have found them without the etrac...if you dont like it and sell it you will get your money back because everyone is looking to buy one....the secret is out!!! you wont be sorry.....ginger
 
To ask oneself whether or not to go to an E-Trac should be a rhetorical question..."of course you should!" It isn't a magic wand that you just wave over the ground and great old coins pop up.....that is unless your Goes4ever....that is just a joke because no one works harder than Terry to find good places and enhancing his skills. I moved up from an Ace 250 a nice beggining machine and I knew I would do better...but I am amazed how much better it is. The proof is in the pudding as they say, look at Terry's two friend they both observed what was happening and upgraded. A similar occurence for me even though I am not the expert Terry is, a friend who was an Ace user too and my nephew who used a DFX saw what even I was finding so they made the move to the E-Trac. Do it and you will not regret it.
 
Like you, I was wary of spending $1500 for the E-Trac, but I can honestly tell you it was the best money I have ever spent on a detector --- hands down, it's a great machine and my silver count has greatly increased and if I add one more point: it is one hell of a nickel killer, I have found more Liberty Head and Buffalo nickels than ever before....................................................Hawkeye Jim.

Etrac is good and very similar with explorers, but too much expensive and heavy like Neanderthal stone axe. buy second hand explorer till 600$ try it and if you will make friendship with it and tolerate heavy detectors like explorer buy etrac. ;)
 
Well Since I started useing My Etrac I am digging coins 3-4 inchs deeper than I ever did with the DFX .Now all things being equal I'm sure there are people who can do things with the dfx that I cant through there hrs of use and learning. But As I now use My Etrac my silver count has jumped by leaps,bounds and an ocasional Happy Dance.It is heavyer IMHO, but its well worth the money. PS I have a real nice DFX forsale ;) All kidding aside You will not be disapointed in what it can do. In the last week I have pulled out five silver dimes a bunch of nickles an more wheat pennies than I got last year with my dfx. Grumpy

Amen Terry, I was a bit concerned about that too because being older with some arthritis and bursitis....hey part of getting older :drool: I was afraid I would not be able to go for as long a period of time. Well the balance is superb and using the E-Trac I get to rest my swing arm much more than I did before that is because I am taking more breaks....digging keeper targets!:clapping: So don't worry about weight.
 
The etrac is a great machine and has a lot of great features.I have bought 2 and sold both for a profit.I mainly use a Safari which is the next step down it will go as deep and work as good as any etrac but the cost is under 1000 dollars.The etrac has lots of great features that will ID a target better than Safari if you are hunting in well manicured lawns you may want to get etrac to dig less.I found an etrac in a pawn shop 3 weeks ago I was looking for whites V3i cheaper than 1600 dollars they want for new one.The etrac had cabela sticker on it.The etrac was like new I paid 400 dollars and I picked up a Big Bud that was like new for 60 dollars if you have pawn shops in your area you should check them out.You may already have most of the hobby tools you need but the average cost of etrac and do not let anyone fool you is about 1800 dollars by the time you buy the sunray pin pointer and get SEF 10X12 or 12X15 coil because you will see on utube that most etrac user put on SEF coil for more stability.Being that is winter I would not be into much of a hurry to buy anything unless you are in warmer climate minelab could bring out an even better detector this spring.Garrett's AT pro has just been released it may be as good as minelabs at 1/3 the cost.Fishers new Gold Bug is a very good deep machine.Good Luck
 
DON'T DO IT!!! KEEP THE DFX AND LEAVE THE COINS FOR ME!!!!!!
 
Look at the finds posted in this forum and then look at the finds posted in the V3 forum. Pick the detector that shows more people finding the type of stuff you want to find, doing the type of hunting you're doing. I like old coins and silver coins. Based on this criteria, the E-Trac was a no-brainer choice. And yeah it's $1500, but just try to find a used one. If you don't like it, you'll have no trouble selling it for near what you paid.
 
I recently used my E-Trac at a spot that was "Hunted and Hunted many times again" by a local DFX user. He told me himself that he "cleaned it out". I recovered 4 Wheat pennies, 2 Indian Heads, a Mercury Dime and some clad. I didn't tell him.
 
The E-Trac is a fine machine. I find it has quite a learning curve though and you are going to need quite a few hours hunting with it to really appreciate its capabilities. I have one but really do not have the time needed to get to know the machine like I would like to. :unsure:

I wouldn't be surprised if he returned there and find more good coins.

Then you could go back again and find more.

It works like that.
 
It's to bad about the lack of time to learn the E-Trac, because the fun is in those hours spent learning this machine. The items found is just the gravy. It's a wonderful detector and it never fails to amaze me at what it can do.

I'm not getting rich with my finds, at least not in dollars & cents, but after almost giving up on this hobby for lack of decent finds I'm having fun again, finding silver coins, tokens, Wheaties, silver trinkets, a few Indian Heads, and spending time with my son again. It sure seems worth the time to me. Rick - Illinois
