To the Excalibur Experts out there...Part needed :minelab::help:

Guys, I recently acquired a NY Excalibur that needs a On/Threshold potentiometer. I have looked at some of the more common suppliers with no luck. What I know is that it is a linear taper 100K with switch pot. Does anyone know where I can get one? I have attached pics of it as well. Thanks,Megadivers

A quick search I found this not sure what you need is on this page!
http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts-kws/100k-log-pot-with-switch

Thanks but it has to be to very specific dimensions to fit within the tube. These are more the generic style.

You are correct, you are going to have to find one close and machine it to fit. This is the reason Minelab stop repairing most of the older machines as the parts are no longer made the same! If they can't get parts you probally can't either. you may beable to swap the PP/ discrimination pot for the Threshold pot. The PP/discrimination pot is only used as an on/off switch not as a pot. But I not sure. There's a Nearly new New yorker on ebay and you can use yours a s parts machine? Those machines are the best ones of th series, they won't be around too much longer! just a thought!

This particular part is the same as the blue decal and Excalibur 2 so it should be out there somewhere.

Gary From "detectorpro.com" might be able to help you! I think he was the one that built those units for Minelab he's out of New York.

Minelab can't help you with the manufacture most likely chinese,,here's something similiar.Cut and paste one at the time into your address bar .

I have always found Minelab very accommodating , if your really get stuck ,ask them the will probably sent it to you for free, I just got half the plastic control box for a sov/gt for free and the sent in a brand new hip mount bag ,worth a try, good luck .

try mouser electronics, theyll match it for you if its still avail..

Hi Mega-D,

Try these guys this has to be a chinese manufacturer item. This is the only one I can find that comes close in the U.S.A. .
http://www.bitechnologies.com/pdfs/p170.pdf

I believe the part # is P170SP1/NP1

Call them, and send them your pic.'s , if you can.First straighten the leeds that are vertical in the second picture you took above .I believe these are called "soldering lugs"take a pair of needle nose pliers and bend the top parts that show these have holes through them. There are a couple different variation to this POT. ,and I would think this would help in deciding which is which version. Please let me know how you make out , I sure we'll all be replacing the these potentiometer from time to time.

Thanks,
Rooster

My guess is it is custom made for Minelabs to fit there needs. the shaft is 3.35mm's..a very odd size, along with the base 12.9mm, 20mm high. Maybe if someone has a burnout excalibur setting around? I would post this question over on the Geotech forum, more of a chance of finding one...Good Luck..let us know if you locate a new source for them..........

Oldbeechnut is right 100 % , the shaft's measurements have to be the exactly the same ,you don't want water getting into the unit, that's the other side of the problem. If the diameter of the shaft on the new pot is a little smaller , your going to be taking on water in the tube. You might have to send them your defective potentiometer so the can properly measure it also.

If the diameter is good and the shaft's length is to long you'll have to modifiy by cutting down the shaft to proper lenght and also making a cut-slit in the top of the shaft so it can be adjusted.

This is only if Minelab doesn't help out here, with a replacement potentiometer ,I can't believe the $1200.00 excalibur is a throw away after a couple years if you can't find a 3.00 dollar part.Or is it?

Sorry ,guys for that last entry about the shaft being to high , I forgot the shaft of the potentiometer
isn't one piece going through the tube , I got ahead of myself.

The second part about cutting down the shaft to length is correct, if the new one is to long.

Update:

After countless searches, phone calls, and other research-I have come to the conclusion that these potentiometers are proprietary items that Minelab chose to have custom made. I appreciate all of the help but unfortunately Minelab is the only supplier of these parts unless you choose to have them custom made. Be very careful with your NY Sword units out there!
