I know that this ? has been asked a thousand times, but i tried to clean a caroted penny today with vinegar and salt and i think that it done more damage than good! I am wondering how the pros clean their pennies? The penny i had is caroted so bad that i cant even see the date, and any info would be appreciated.Evey one that metal detects i hope you you good luck on your finds, thanks

When I need to clean coins, as long as they are not silver or key dates, I put them in my Harbor Freight double barrel tumbler for a few hrs. I do this when I have enough to make a full batch. Once they are done tumbling I spray them with water and sit them out to dry for a couple of hours.
