Todays meager hunt.:teknetics:

Fellow club member and I hit the old, trashy park one more time. We hadn't spent a lot of time on the area that he sniffed out his 1920 Walker half and I a Mercury dime, so we decided to see if it had anything else to offer. We worked it pretty hard and no silver coins surfaced. We each, however, scored a jewelry piece. He go a silver ring and I snagged a sterling Medico Alert bracelet. I again had the 10" DD coil on the Omega. That coil really is stellar in trash. HH jim tn

Nice going Jim.

That park ain't hunting out yet. They're at least 100 gold rings left to find. They're safely hidden amongst 10 million pull tabs that ID the same as the gold rings do.

I bet there's plenty of silver left to find. A lot of silver has come out of there since the last time I heard that it was hunted out.

No kidding! Its so trashy even my head hurts after a 5 hour hunt. And nope, it will never be hunted out. I truly wish you would go after those 100 gold rings. The 10,000 pieces of trash you dig for the gold would help in un-masking the old silver still left there. LOL Take care. HH jim tn

That's a Great hunt!:clapping: Theres an idea! a big "pulltab" safari hunt! Get your club together, and sponsor a one hour timed hunt for nothing other than pulltabs...whoever gets the most wins one of YOUR silver halfs! (winners choice) Rules: ..all tabs and zinc pennys count, any other coins disqualify entrant, any gold rings found may be kept.
I wonder if something like this has ever been done? It would be fun as all get out!

Mud, I like your ideal a lot. I'm hard to beat when it comes to digging trash.:)

I'll give you that, but for sheer speed in a pulltab shootout, "Silver Half Pulltab Junkshot Roundup"...I'd give you a decent run! By dang, I'd bet you go home in tears, and me toting home Jimmys silver half!:beers:

Jim, I'll be there in the morning around 8:30. You'll welcome join in on the fun. I've dug 4 gold rings so far this year, but I don't expect to pull one out of all that trash.

Thanks, I may just meet you there. 1st area after you turn in. Mud, it would be worth one of my half's (clad:rofl:) just to watch you and Gerald digging tabs like they were seeded silver quarters. Man, I can just see the dirt flying now. HH jim tn

Jim, do you like the 10"DD coil better than the 5" DD coil? and how does it compare to the 11" DD coil, I have the 3 coil pack, 5" DD, 11" DD and 9"

Thanks Pitcher

I use and like the 10 DD a lot. I don't know what it is about it, but I have dug coins that had 2, 3 and 4 pieces of trash in the dirt clod with the coin. It may have been just a snick or tic, but it will hit good targets tight against trash. And I do use it more then the 11." The 11" gets the best depth and gets used for field and woods hunting. Although for heavy, heavy trash I do use the 5," but I like hunting with the 10' DD better. It proves itself time and time again. HH jim tn

so-called 10" stock Omega coil (5

Monte, Im stuck on the DD coils, maybe its just my ears but they seem to work better for me, the stock concentric coil just dosent work for me, ive used it twice its still new but looking for another DD coil, if you have any on stock please let me no, would love try the new 5x10 DD. Im pretty sure I will be selling the concentric coil.

Thanks.

I don't think preferences are necessarily governed by our ears. I know that my preference for Concentric cols is based on years of evaluating them, side-by-side with Double-D coils of similar size, or close to comparable size. One example is the White's 6X10 DD compared with the round 5.3 Eclipse on the M6 ad MXT Pro models. Their elliptical DD measures about 5

Monte, I was referring to the newer 10" DD. It really has a tight sweet spot. Like you, I think, my over all favorite coil for the Omega is the 10 concentric for not so trash laden spots. That coil, over all, gets the most use by me. Each, though, has its place. HH jim tn

That left the 5" DD on a lower rod to quickly fit onto any of the Tek. series it works on. Maybe I'll play with the 5X10 DD on the Omega some more.

Monte

I guess Im missing the boat, I am not getting the same results with the 5 1/2 x 93/4 " coil, or maybe the one I is bad, but theres no way that coil gets better depth than my other two coils, not in the air and not in the ground, I have better luck and find more in trashy areas with the 11"DD coil than with 9" coil, just how it runs on my Omega and I have tested all three of them over and over.

In the meantime, just use what works best for you an enjoy the performance as you feel you're getting.

I know one fellow who just didn't like the 5" DD coil, telling me that it was noisy, or saying that he didn't get decent depth with it, or that he couldn't pinpoint with it. It just wasn't for him. I even swapped him the 5" from my 3 coil Omega pack and he gave me the same comments. I use his Omega and it worked just like mine. I used the 5" DD as hard as I used mine in September of 2010 when I nabbed 895 coins that month, and his coil worked just as well.

In his case I think it was just the smaller size as he looked way down at the far end of he rod. I know a few who prefer the DD coils, both 5" and 11", more than the stock 5

The two main reasons I like the 10" concentric (or 9 3/4, or whatever) is it likes bottle caps a lot less then the DD coils and mine gets nearly as much depth as the 11" DD and sees a few less targets. Although, it does have a heck of a footprint. It is the coil I use for seeded club hunts. But, confidence in ones detector and coil (s) is a big factor for success. Just have fun! HH jim tn
