Tone ID Delay?

Brett

New member
One thing I'm noticing in comparison to my E-Trac, is that there is a slight delay from the time I pass over a target to the time I hear the audio response. This is supposedly not caused by the wireless headphones which are a proprietary technology and not bluetooth (which often has a delay). On my E-Trac I can sweep rapidly back and fourth and hone in on the target, turn 90 degrees and hone in again. No need to even pinpoint. On the Vision it's difficult to tell where that target is quickly, without pinpointing.

Is there a way to speed up this response time? I've not dove into any expert controls yet, I'm just using the factory presets... mainly Coins with TONE ID turned ON. I also turned up Bottlecap Reject to 2 because I was digging way too many of those.

There is a recovery speed setting that you can change which will speed it up. I played with this over the weekend and you can get it to go pretty fast. Not sure what the draw back to doing this is though, maybe losing depth.

Turn on your VCO Brett, pinpointing is a snap then. Move the coil around until you get the highest pitch tone and the target will be right in the middle of the coil.

Thanks guys, but I don't think VCO or Ratchet Pinpointing is going to help the issue I'm having. I can pinpoint just fine with the D2 coil as it has a nice thin edge of detection. It's when I'm in motion mode that there is a little delay from the time I pass over a target to the time the audio responds. Then I have to guess where the target is (delayed behind the signal), or switch to pinpoint mode. The thing is, if you have a stronger trash target next to a weaker good target, you don't necessary want to have to use pinpoint to zero in on the spot to dig. It will pull you closer to the shallow or stronger junk target, and potentially risk putting the shovel or digger through the good target. But if you can motion over the good target and get a repeating signal with some degree of accuracy, you don't even need to pinpoint. You've done it already :) Now increasing the recovery speed could help this, but I believe the preset is 10Hz which is already close to the upper end of 12.5Hz. I wish it would stop raining so I could go check this out in the yard.

I've noticed if I have my sweep speed too fast for my swing there is a delay in the target to tone ratio. Of course this is with my DFX. I call it lag.
