Yes thats POINT 9! Got up at 3:30 and on the sand by 4...got rousted by the "man", said he had beach patrol and that he was on the lookout for skinnydippers, I said if I pulled my pants down would he let me stay? Couldn't see his expression on that one since he had a light pointed in my face. Said I could come back at 6, and so I did. This is one tiny ring, sized 3 1/4, .9 grs of 925 for the paltry worth of 1.06. It came in as a zinc penny on the f70. Sure is dark out early...interesting that you dont need eyes or even a light with a metal detector...your ears become your eyes! I've tried lots of differrent footwear on the beach, but nothing seems to beat bare feet. I did find a little over 5 bucks in clad, and was home by 8. What a way to spend the dead hours of a morning! Just Great!

Silver is silver, big or small. You and I think alike, mud. I'm usually walking to my hunting spot in the pre-dawn light. Great time of the day. Peaceful! Nice find. HH jim tn

He was looking for skinnydippers? In the dark? WOAH, BIG CRIME ! Can't do any thing any more.
And isn't that nice, you can come back at 6.
Too too many restrictions these days.
I still can't get over the beach badge you have to buy at many Jersey beaches. They actually have beach patrols roaming in and out of the umbrellas and blankets checking on everyone. I do understand the beaches have to be maintained and lifeguarded, but who really benefits?, the vendors & the retailers do, thats their livleyhood. So who should pay to keep the beaches maintained?
Years ago there was never a cost to be on a public beach. Sorry....Just venting.
Glad you made a good find mudpuppy, even though your day was interupted by goofie rules.

Nice job Mud. $5 is a good haul and you got the ring. What else do you want? I suppose a gold nugget too?
Gad zooks!! Your up and about at 330??? I get up at 6. It's a hobby? When I drove the bus I had the first bus out on my route 4 am. Me, the hookers, drunks, and drug addicts going to the methadone clinic for their fix were up at that time. So I don't want to get up at 2 am anymore.
The beaches are opened at 6AM to 10PM??? You can't park by the beaches over night.
I use Croc's on the beach. They are great.
Good Hunt Mud. .....Z

I like the O dark thirty...you get to see some amazing things like Zeek was saying...theres a lot of beer can scroungers out since we get a dime for them here in Mich. Its just nice and generally peaceful, and evidently from the amount of silver coins Jims been posting, its his hot time too. Hey Steve! I'm with you on that one! too many rules, what they need on the beach to discourage skinnydipping is a bunch of old guys out there in their shorts a beeping away! I have a few back up beaches that are not patrolled and is really where the after hours shenannigans happen anyway, though its a good thing to go there right at sunup, or a fellow might accidentally sneak up on someone, or have someone sneak up on them.
Life is too short, and so is the summer, and by dang it makes it doubly tough to cover a lot of sand in a few hours before the crowds and heat show up..thanks guys.

Hi all !

Enjoyed reading the threads, for it brought back memories of the early days when I had my first detector.

My preference was 'late night' beach detecting, after a sunny summers day.

In my bare feet I could easily locate the coins in the sand, and there were plenty to find.

I was one of the first detectorists locally, so 'the world' was my domain.

Your local beach rules in the USA appear to be somewhat 'heavy'.

As for skinny dipper here in the UK....well they would get more than a suntan with our polluted waters.

I must admit that we did enjoy the occasional 'after party skinny session' in the local boating marina....that would be when I was about 20.

I remember the phosphorescent glow that the 'mermaids' ( the girls) created as they backstroked at speed, away from the predatory 'crocodiles'.

Remember the song from that period?......Young and foolish....we haven't long to be...Laughing in the sunlight...crying in the rain.

I wish that I was young, and foolish again.

Hope you find a few more rings and things, and thanks to you all for posting......Tex

"I said if I pulled my pants down would he let me stay?"

Your the kind of guy I want to hunt with.

I highly admire law enforcement but sometimes I wonder where an officer's brains are. Don't all skinny dipper encumber themselves with detectors, scoops etc.........he deserved that answer.
