Trash + 40 sense = beautiful silver!

REVIER

Well-known member
The ring was gorgeous till I tried to straighten it out using the wrong tool and cracked it.
Still, one of the nicest silver rings I ever found.

I was at an old park in an area near some tennis courts.
People have been walking around here for a long time so this grassy area in between the parking spots and the courts were filled with trash.
I had the sense on about 60, -1 on the thresh, disc on1, DE and 4H tones and I found a copper penny as my first target but it was still in a very jumpy environment due to some wifi or power lines from the homes just across the street.
I lowered the sense down to 40 and everything went quiet, and then the second target came in as a rock steady 73 at about 3 inches and this baby popped up.

I now have full confidence in my F70 at 30-60 sense settings this thing will still go deep.
For me in my good dirt even on 30 I believe I can probably get to about 10", maybe more, if I run across a target that deep when using the 11" DD coil.
At least 8", anyway...maybe deeper if I swich to SL.
By lowering that sense all targets became clear and I could pluck them out one by one, or leave them in the ground if I wanted to.

In trashy sites my sense gets lowered to between 30 and 50 depending on how quiet the F70 is at these settings and I believe this is the way I will hunt from now on when I come across trash.
No more messing around...just find the quietest setting and go.
The minute I did that on this hunt I found that ring.

Oh boy. Maybe a time for a public service announcement about silver. Like copper, weathering and use can make make it brittle. I had a few friends that were jewelry makers and silver smith's and would often heat silver items "out of general practice" before trying any adjustments.

Too bad, looks to be a worthy find.

That is a sharp looking ring...what kind of stone do ya reckon it is Revier?

Bummer on the breakage Revier. But it's still a nice find.

Agate of some kind.
If the wife likes the ring style, pretty easy to replace, I would think.

Man! Nice hunting there, and good post for everybody to get an idea of what this 70 can do if its set up right for the location, nice and quiet, comfortable hunting, wont miss a thing!.:clapping:

Revier that is sure a nice ring. It looks like it could be an old one. I am not very good at jewelry ID'ing. My wife looks at jewelry and tells me it it is good or not. She shops a lot. That is her hobby. My hunting partner makes jewelry so when I find any jewelry that needs some kind of work I give it to him to take home and fix it. I have broken a few bands and some glass diamonds??? I thought they were real!!! :clapping: Great detecting. Happy Trails....Z
