Travel Case for my CTX. What do you think?

I had been wanting to build a storage case for my ctx for the couple trips I take each year. I don't fly but wanted to give it a little better protection than a carry bag since we always have a ton of luggage in the vehicle. I had this plano bow case sitting around that I had bought a year ago when amazon had it for $70. I decided to buy some sheets of foam from a company called foam factory for $60. I could have spent about $40 on the foam but decided I wanted to do a red/black combo which was the extra cost. I spent the last couple evenings cutting the sheets down to fit the case, making templates and then finally tonight doing the cutting for the detector itself. Here is the finished project, let me know what you all think...

I like it :super:

Looks like a great case, NICE layout. What's the thickness of the foam ? I'm thinking the yellow dots are anti-crush supports ? Also what's the outsize dimensions ? HH Jack

hi Jack, the red foam is 1" thick. the bottom(where everything lays) is red 1", red 1", black 1/4"' then another red 1". total of 3 1/4 in bottom. for the top I bought 2 1/2 eggcrate black and then there is another layer of red 1" under it. the inside dimensions are 40 3/4" by 16 3/4". I cut the foam to 41x17. there were also 2 plastic pieces that stuck out in the back of the bottom section which I cut out of the case. they held a small piece of foam vertically along the back. The outside of the case I am not sure but would guess maybe 42x18. yes, the yellow things you see are center supports to keep the case stiff. they came with the case and tou can screw them into the case in many different positions. here is the case on amazon. Its a few dollars more now than when I got it..

I'm thinking you did a good job

Very nice work.....and I like the RED. That case will serve you well. I travel with mine all over the world and never had an issue - except the looks I sometimes get from foreigners that think there is a gun inside!

Wow both cases look awesome !

Love the look of the red foam. I have a slightly different plano model case. All of my coils and accessories are held in place with straps. The case I got is the Plano 108115 AW Bow Case. It's big, heavy, but seems indestructible. Latches lock as well. Thanks for sharing!

An excellent idea.....maybe you should sell them?

thanks again all!

its a plano 114400 Mike....
