Try Standing a U.S. quarter straight up at five inches deep in the dirt and see if your machine can find it. If it finds it you are doing something right, If it does not find it you may be going to fast or ...

Yes on any machine. Make sure the top of the coin is at five inches standing straight up and not higher. Sometimes we will be in such a hurry we will miss it.
 
That's my key to finding coins in hammered areas low and slow and circle a questionable target!
